I am an expressive art therapist, I work primarily with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ people who struggle to feel seen and validated in the healthcare system and American capitalist systems at large. I enjoy working with people who are seeking a therapist with overlapping lived experiences. I highly value feedback and open communication with clients. In my opinion, the therapeutic relationship is the most important part of good therapy and mutual respect is critical to that. I love working with many age groups ranging from teens to adults.

My career has focused on working with individuals, couples, and groups who are dealing with a wide variety of challenges including substance use, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, identity conflicts, and social isolation. The people I resonate best with are those who need help to better understand themselves and want structured support to work on making positive change in their lives. I enjoy supporting people in their own process, and recognize that we all come into this with our own unique story.

The ideal client is someone that is willing to put in the work. You must be willing to participate in your own therapy, as it is not a one-sided transaction. The trick with therapy is that the more willing you are to explore and share about yourself, the more beneficial it is to you. The journey is as important as the destination and the detours provide for some amazing insights. Consistency is also key. Think of therapy as another form of self-care. I provide a safe, comfortable space for people to explore and heal without judgement.

I'm currently accepting new clients! I show up to my work with authenticity, warmth, and humor, believing therapy should always be a collaborative partnership. Together, we will work as a team, trusting your own knowledge of yourself and expertise of your lived experience. My therapeutic approach is informed by an anti-oppressive lens; my goal is to lift some of the weight that our systems dump onto us daily to create respite and to assist my clients in finding where they can adapt, tap into their agency, and grow.

In working with adolescents and young adults, clients often find themselves isolated from their environment and feeling that others around them cannot understand their experiences. Clients may need support in navigating life transitions and mental health challenges encountered along the way. These can range from diagnosed mental health disorders, family disturbances, to struggles connecting with peers.

Much of who we are today is the result of life events that left us feeling helpless, alone or broken. Some of those wounds if they go unchecked may cause us to rely on unhealthy coping mechanisms, a loud inner critic and/or a self rejection part. Unlearning some of these mechanisms is part of the healing journey. I invite curiosity, careful reflection while honoring your knowledge and wisdom to heal. I use various clinical treatment approaches from trauma informed framework, relational attachment, emotion focused to spiritual/Christian faith/based.

After several years in the field, I cannot explain how inspired I am by the many individuals and stories I have encountered. When I think of counseling, I think of several things: listening, developing a true connection, skill-building, productive honesty, and even celebrating the possibility of not needing counseling anymore. My therapeutic approach is comprised of these several aspects, along with moments of light-hearted humor.

People often don’t believe in therapy because they don’t believe they can change. Some people imagine their “ideal” self and feel that they are too far behind or too unstable to become that person. I do this work because I believe in people and I know they can change. My purpose as a therapist is to meet you wherever you are in your journey and create a safe, empowering space where we can work together as a team to move you closer toward your personal goals. This may mean processing past trauma, teaching you how to set better boundaries with people in your life, or helping you reframe your thinking about a current life change.

Using the therapeutic process I can offer many things to people: empathy and a sounding board, other ways of looking at issues, and ideas about how to solve problems. In addition, I can help you feel more alive to your experience as paying attention to your inner voice can increase your capacity to feel and be present. I have been a therapist for over twenty years. I also have taught clinical practice for ten years to students earning their masters degrees in counseling and I provide ongoing clinical supervision for people who work in various settings.

For over 35 years I have been providing patients with a safe space that is mutually created together through a trusting connection built to hold whatever you bring into therapy. My focus is on longer term therapy that is aimed at achieving real and lasting change in one's life. It is also my experience that once many of the initial issues are worked through, whether they are older emotional wounds or current relationship issues, that ultimately what will emerge are your own unique qualities that will allow you to flourish in all aspects of your life.

Therapy is a gift you can give to yourself in moving toward living a more authentic life. I believe that the essence of healing comes from a person’s ability to access inner strengths and resources, which are often undervalued and underutilized, or may seem inaccessible.

I enjoy working with people who are struggling with substance use, whether they are just beginning to question their use and habits or they have experienced chronic relapse and feel hopeless. I believe part of that process is ensuring they are informed of options available and helping them discover their “why.” I have experience supporting people in identifying their strengths, finding coping skills, and creating measurable, attainable goals. I am skilled at navigating treatment systems/levels of care in Massachusetts. I have experience with medical detoxification protocols and can discuss options for medication-supported treatment.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Middlesex County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
