Everyone deserves to have a place where they can just let it all out and not care one bit what the person across from them thinks. Clients often come to me with insecurities, low self-esteem, battling with depression, simply feeling beat up by life. I work to provide individuals, families and couples with a safe, confidential and empathetic environment where they can feel comfortable telling their truth. I am passionate about helping individuals identify the barriers preventing them from finding their life’s purpose and achieving goals they set for themselves. The therapeutic process is very difficult, as it presents many unknowns.

Shame expert, Brené Brown, puts it like this: “Shame loves secrecy. The most dangerous thing to do after a shaming experience is hide or bury our story. When we bury our story, the shame metastasizes.” You’ve been holding onto shame stories, weighing you down and consuming you; it’s torture. Shame paves the way for depression and anxiety, terrorizing your relationships, work, and personal life. I know you’d like to feel lighter, freer, and more connected and accepting of yourself. Let’s get you there.

I have enjoyed working as a partner in mental health and wellness for over 20 years. It is my hope that as I walk alongside the client he or she will recognize strengths, develop skills, and embrace healing. While I have specialized training in some complex issues, much of the work of a counselor is helping people deal with the everyday struggles most of us face on a daily basis.

When working with clients, I strive to make the therapeutic experience genuine, positive, respectful, and safe. I believe that through talking and building a good connection, we can develop your therapeutic goals, and create a successful and obtainable plan. My work is focused around the ages 20-65, when personal goal, and family dynamics are constantly shifting and new roles are developing. This can feel very overwhelming, scary, and sometimes hopeless. You do not have to do this alone! We will work together around the topics of parenting, anxiety/depression, trauma/abuse, school/college, grief/life changes, or areas of interest.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
