Everyone could benefit from talking with a counselor to help cope with life's stressors. You may prefer to meet with a counselor one-on-one to help improve your quality of life. If your intimate relationship is a concern, you and your partner(s) could utilize relationship counseling to communicate more effectively and regain the passion that drew you together. Building a support network and feeling as if you belong are also valuable resources that group counseling can provide. Regardless of your concern, there are multiple counseling options to help meet your needs. Initiating counseling services is the first step to feeling better.

There’s this old saying, “Just look towards the light at the end of the tunnel. Everything will be alright.” But what if the tunnel is long and the end feels extremely far away? What we are unable to see where the tunnel ends? What if the tunnel is so dark that we have to focus on not tripping so we can’t take the time to look for the end? Many of us may feel this way in our daily lives. We may feel that we are in this tunnel and are having trouble finding the light at the end of it. We may feel depressed, stressed, overwhelmed or hopeless. But what if I told you that the light at the end may not be the only light?

Hi there! My name is Bekah, and I am a therapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness. I enjoy working with adults and teens on topics including identity, LGBTQ+ matters, self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, stress, depression, and inner child work. I am deeply passionate about working with folks seeking to unpack experiences of religious harm and spiritual abuse. I’ve experienced firsthand how isolating and confusing re-evaluating long-held belief systems can be, and I would love to support you as you identify what holds meaning for you and begin creating a life that aligns with your values.

Are you struggling to move forward from a recent traumatic event? Maybe a past experience from earlier in your life continues to negatively impact your present life. Maybe you feel stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts or overwhelming emotions. What if you could feel lighter, more content, and more confident? You may be a good fit for an EMDR intensive if: You're experiencing recurring themes, insecurities, or narratives in your life, your past casts a shadow on your daily life and relationships, you're eager to dive deeper and make a radical shift, you don't want to spend months or years in talk therapy.

I take an approach to difficulties such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, substance misuse, and self esteem issues which is compassionate, direct, and often with a little humor.
Welcome! I specialize in helping folks to address complex trauma, problems in relationships, and building self-esteem and authenticity in life. It is completely natural to struggle and experience difficulties. Sometimes these difficulties come from experiencing traumatic events, managing difficult relationships, and even feeling as if we do not know ourselves and what we really want out of life. If you are having problems in relationships, with self- esteem, or just managing life stress, counseling can help.

Hello! If you are reading this, perhaps we will get to know one another. I have been a clinical therapist for over 10 years, but helping people for much longer than that. After working in foster care, I completed my college studies in psychology and social work. Helping in someone's healing journey is a privilege. Life can be really tough sometimes. Sometimes we have loads that we carry, beliefs and lessons we have learned along the way, some helpful and others not as much. I hope to help people of many multi-ethnic backgrounds, those who are open to healing, and recognize the importance of relationships, starting with self.

In my practice I focus on helping people to free the present from the long term effects of problematic early life experiences. In psychotherapy, we work to create space for thoughts, feelings, and memories to emerge and to be understood. Understanding supports developing new skills which allow for new and more positive choices to be made based in the present, cleared of the distortions of the past. I offer a brief telephone consultation for potential clients.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
