Thank you for taking the first step in mental health self-care; so tell me, how are you? No really, how are you? If the answer is not great, maybe it’s time to open up an honest dialogue about starting therapy. I'm Scarlett; I am the owner and therapist at Grounded Guidance Counseling, PLLC, where I provide outpatient therapy services to individuals and couples. I strive to meet my clients exactly where they are emotionally in a professional but relatable manner, as I desire to break down barriers that could make therapy feel intimidating for anyone involved.

Hello and thanks for stopping by. Sometimes when life's challenges arise, we can become sad, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Sometimes these difficulties are new to us; at other times we continue to struggle with issues that have followed us from long ago. Whatever the case, I am eager to partner with you to overcome obstacles, and I listen with respect and without judgment. It may be that you also need a gentle nudge, and no topic is considered out-of-bounds during our time together. I want you to live a better life, and I am always honored when a client reaches out to share their journey toward greater peace and well-being.

I believe that the most important factor of successful treatment starts with establishing a genuine therapeutic relationship. I have over 20 years of experience working with children, adults and families with co-occurring disorders, and the expectation is that each client is treated with dignity and respect. There is a higher calling on my life to serve people and this combines with education, training and life experience to better connect with others while assisting in the healing process.

I believe in creating a therapeutic relationship, that will uncover, release and help you find balance from life challenges by utilizing healthy coping skills that focus on your goals.
Life is not without it's ups and downs. Often the difficulties and challenges that we encounter need to be conquered in a positive and productive way. Each and everyday our wounds will demand uncovering and healing until we address them. Choosing to face our emotional scars requires strength, which will propel us forward towards a new beginning. Through counseling you can find helpful solutions to past trauma, stress, emotional scars and everyday issues that are in need of healing.

Waitlist for new clients
My training in individual, group and couples therapy, Gestalt Therapy, process and cognitive therapies, well as EMDR, allow me to focus on each individual client based on their needs.
People often seek therapy when they have hit a wall in their lives. Maybe you have tried to do it differently this time, in your relationships or your work, or you have a sense that you are not where you want to be in your life. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, stress or trauma, or are in a major life transition. Whatever your needs or goals, you may have heard the small voice that says, "Maybe I need some help". My ideal client is anyone who is ready to listen to that voice, and knows that today is the day to reach out, and to seek the life you deserve.

I believe the therapeutic relationship can be healing, and I feel honored every time I get to sit across from a client.
Slowing down long enough to listen to your body, your emotions, and your needs is so difficult, but you've done it. You are scrolling here today because you've gotten to the end of your rope, or you've come to a confusing fork in the road, or you've lost something that once made you come alive. Whatever the reason, here you are, and I am so grateful. Take a deep breath. The journey is beginning because you (right here in this moment) are taking the first step.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
