I have worked in the child welfare system for over 20 years. I understand the individual and family struggles that come along with domestic violence, trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, etc. I have worked in New York City for my entire career serving the diverse communities in dealing with immigration issues such as acculturation, separation and reunification.
The title of my dissertation was 'The Experience of Early Parental Separation due to Piecemeal Immigration to the United States Among Dominicans.' In completing my retrospective study, I learned that there are a set of complex dynamics that take place when parents and children separate at an early age due to seeking a better future.
For over 15 years, I have supervised social workers on achieving their professional goals including credentials for LCSW, enhancing 'use of self' within the therapist/client dyad and issues of transference/countertransference.
