Whether you are exploring therapy for the first time or have had prior treatment, the initial contact with a therapist can be daunting. Feel free to contact me to discuss how therapy may help and if I am the right therapist for you. I would be happy to spend some time on the phone to answer any questions you may have as well as to help you decide whether or not to set up an initial appointment.

I enjoy the diversity of my clients, walking with adults of all ages and backgrounds. In 2011 I turned into the joys of psychotherapy as a second career. I see my main job as listening carefully, mirroring your process with empathy and helping you move toward the goals you set, whether they are about reaching deeper inside or moving into the practical steps you need to take next week. My experience and spirituality are assets you can rely on, but they will not direct your own process of understanding, healing and maturation.

Perhaps the tried and true ways of coping with challenging feelings and situations are no longer working the way they once did. You may be concerned about what this means or how it is affecting your relationships. And even clicking on this page means you are already starting to do something different. This curiosity and the hope you put in our work that things might get better is something I take very seriously. One of my overall concerns for the therapeutic process is that we turn your hope into a sense of empowerment so that you can feel confident about your abilities as you face the challenges and rewards that life presents

Being a man of color, I view therapy a bit differently.
My therapy focuses on you and your needs. My job is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you on your journey, making you aware of and exploring things that may hinder your success. I am trauma-informed and feel that past experiences heavily impact how we navigate the world currently. Personal identity also plays a significant role in our lives and sometimes affects mental health. The client-therapist relationship is extremely important and it is my job to build trust, so you feel comfortable being completely open and honest in a non-judgmental session so positive change can occur.

I enjoy helping clients who want to explore themselves and work towards being more accepting and confident in who they truly are. If you want to gain a broader perspective in how you are approaching your relationships, both personal and professional, I'd love to help you. Growth and change are challenging, and can also be fun and exciting. In our work we'll practice being more aware of what is really there for you in the area(s) you're working on. It might be that devloping a new skillset in your relationship will help it grow, or that you need help ending a relationship and starting a new one.

The gift of sustained hu man connection is among the greatest rewards of the therapeutic experience.
Congratulations on getting the most difficult part out of the way: deciding that you might benefit from help! It is one of the toughest steps anyone can take. My job is to ensure that it is also among the more richly rewarding and empowering decisions you have made. Whether you know for certain what your next steps in life are, or whether you feel somewhat adrift and unsure, I pledge to meet you where you are and together we will navigate the journey.

I’m a therapist who specializes in helping those struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-harm, personality disorders, attachment issues, neurodivergence (Autism, OCD, ADHD), and sexuality/kink concerns. In addition to being a therapist, I’m also a philosopher, and will implement an integrated view on wellness to help you make sense of your concerns, empower you, and give you the tools to live your best life. My passion is working with children, teenagers, young adults, couples and families to process trauma and difficult experiences so they can experience growth and healing within themselves and their relationships. Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people".

I provide teletherapy to clients in Pennsylvania and California (I am licensed in both states). I work with adults (18-65) who are struggling with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, acute stress, substance use, and challenges with interpersonal relationships, major life transitions, coming out, gender, and queer identity development. I use EMDR therapy and client-centered, mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral interventions to support people in healing from traumatic experiences and unresolved grief by helping them reprocess disturbing, burdensome memories so that they become less intrusive, distracting, and painful.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
