My clients are burned-out peacemakers suffering from anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. They put others before themselves and struggle to set boundaries. Many had difficult childhoods where their emotional needs weren't fully met and may struggle with ongoing difficult family relationships with their parents and extended families. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy both virtually and in-person.

As a therapist, I get excited about the opportunity for change in a person's life. My goal is to connect with the client and to help them achieve healing, gain hope, and thrive individually. I take a holistic approach when counseling an individual; it's vital to look at other aspects of the client and their situation, not just the presenting problem. Family, friends, environment and medication are just a few of the factors that can influence a client's mental and emotional state.

All we have to be in the world is kind and brave. Really. And I believe you can do that. Have you ever felt like you were walking on eggshells in your relationship? Do you feel like no matter what you do it is wrong from your partner's perspective? You shouldn't have to feel like this in your relationship. No one should have to feel afraid of the person they love. If you have begun to feel down on yourself because of the way your partner treats you, I would love to help you grow in understanding of present dynamics and experience relief so that you can move forward with confidence.

Have you found yourself asking, “how did I get here?” Are you left feeling disappointed or hopeless with your current life circumstances and wondering what steps you need to take to get yourself unstuck? Facing reality head-on and challenging your current thought processes can be a daunting task. Making the initial decision to start therapy is sometimes the most challenging step of the process. This choice can often come with feelings of insecurity, uncertainty and fear. However, it does not have to be this way—you do not have to navigate the complexities of life while in isolation. True, redemptive, lasting healing is possible.

Accepting NEW clients! Something’s happened. It was a big, terrible, life-changing event. Or maybe it was a million little things that add up to everything just being hard and heavy all the time. You try to avoid reminders, but sometimes you just can’t. The memories flood your thoughts, wash through your emotions, and weigh down your body. Your relationships are suffering. It’s difficult to focus at work. Your mind, heart, and body are just not at ease. Swinging between autopilot and survival mode feels out of control. You just want to be able to act on your values.

I work with individuals, families, parents, and couples (premarital, married, divorcing and divorced, co-parenting couples). My client is the relationship and my goal is that you experience new life in your relationship. Sometimes couples get stuck in familiar ways of functioning, and with therapy, can learn to function differently in a way that can change the dynamics of the relationship. I am a structural family therapist, who incorporates CBT. I then focus on identifying the core beliefs you hold that are triggered by your current circumstances and begin to challenge those beliefs so that you

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
