Does life seem especially challenging or difficult to face? We all have those moments, and I am here to help. I began counseling in a crisis center environment and received my Master's in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from UTSW School of Health Professions. Over the last several years, I have partnered with people of all ages (10-85) facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and stressors to physical and emotional health. I have a special interest in helping those facing trauma and navigating life transitions at any stage of life.

Let's face it; sometimes being human can be downright overwhelming. Managing a family and a household on top of navigating work stresses and relationship and interpersonal difficulties, might leave you feeling stretched to your physical and emotional limit. Just when you think you are going to snap, your child begins having emotional or behavioral difficulties that you can’t seem to solve in the ways you have in the past. When we experience difficulties in life, it is often the hardest to ask for help, but sometimes the strongest and most important action is to reach out and request the assistance of others.

My clients are adults of all ages working through a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, spiritual disconnection, relationship difficulties, and more. I have a particular interest and additional experience with the LGBTQ population, young adults working to establish their identities, those working through painful grief journeys, and those who are exploring their faith or spirituality. My goal is always to create a space free from judgment where you can explore who you are, who you want to be, and how you can get there!

I have a strong desire to help people become the most authentic version of themselves, and I work to provide a safe and compassionate space for people to explore their strengths and resilience. It is important to me to collaborate with my clients to reach their unique goals, and build a therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect and honesty.

When creating Phoenix Arise, she envisioned a counseling office that would be focused on treating clients through a trauma informed lens. I am an expert in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have been part of NIMH research studies in CBT for depression conducted at UT Southwestern Medical School, where I held the rank of Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology. I initiated and taught the graduate course in CBT in the Rehab Psychology graduate program as well as teaching cognitive and behavior therapy to third year psychiatry residents at UT Southwestern. I employ a CBT approach to helping people with mood disorders, including depression, anxiety, panic and OCD.

I work with individuals, couples, and families. My approach begins with creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship in order to identify your strengths, prioritize your goals, reflect on your patterns and relationships that are not working well, explore your feelings and to find alternative ways to get your needs met. Collaboratively, we will work on identifying and strengthening your inner self. The goal is to assist you to achieve a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life with enriching relationships.

I offer neuropsychological evaluation and therapy utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy with my clients that are faced with challenges of mood disorders, neurocognitive/developmental disorders, and pain related disorders. As well, I perform assessments for those with mild brain injury, aging related disorders, ADHD (adults), and those that need an evaluation prior to an upcoming surgical procedure.
