From all appearances, you've got it so good. Lying in wait, just under the surface, are the life traumas that wounded you deeply but were never addressed. And those secrets have you turning to substances more and more. One weekly drink becomes a daily bottle, and you're making excuses to your boss, your friends, your family. Do you want to quit but you don't know how? I can help you find your way out of this despair and into the life you want. You can do this. Let's talk.

Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, fears, anger, relationship, or family problems? Has balancing personal life and work become too much? These are all examples of our response to stress. Some people are dealing with everyday stressors and others bring traumatic experiences into the mix. When trauma collides with stress, life becomes challenging. Addressing these issues is both rewarding and scary. With compassion/humor I work with each person at their starting point and on the issues they bring. I see myself as the Sherpa who holds the lights and other tools to help make the path safe for you.

I work with adults 22 and older looking for growth and healing. I especially enjoy working with emerging adults as they navigate life cycle transitions (graduating college/relationships/navigating friendships), therapists in training, and people wanting to unlearn toxic narratives. I specialize in anxiety, depression, attachment and trauma. I also work with couples navigating ways to communicate and understand each other in healthier ways and how to promote healthier relationships in general. Also as a person who identifies as biracial, I enjoy work around identity exploration and privilege and oppression. Couples work is OON.

My practice is focused on helping individuals understand and heal from the profound wounds caused by emotional or physical violence/neglect in close personal relationships. This includes adults who've experienced childhood abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment, as well as sexual assault, violence, and betrayal trauma. By conceptualizing complex forms of trauma from a feminist perspective, I investigate issues of gender, power, and culture, and identify them as the center of oppression, distress, and dysfunction in a person's life. Relational trauma often creates isolation, and I believe it is only in relationship that we heal.

I bring to my work a warm, welcoming, and empathetic style to counseling. I enjoy working with clients in life transitions, be it returning to school, leaving a relationship that is no longer serving you, entering into recovery, or any other new chapter of life you are entering into. We all need guidance along the way, and therapy is a great space to find this.

Do you spend all your time/energy anxiously taking care of everyone else or feel the need to work for people’s love and approval? Do you crave softness, a slower pace, more peace? Are you tired of being a perfectionist or people pleaser? Are you ready to break free from enmeshed and toxic relationship dynamics? Then you've come to the right place! As a radical, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed psychotherapist, I focus a lot on decolonization, fluidity and flexibility; and avoid applying bandaids and rigid, outdated protocols to your healing process. Together, our sessions will involve a lot of deconstruction and inner child work.

In my therapeutic practice I seek to motivate clients to build the brain they want rather than feeling stuck with the one they have. By harnessing the power of cognitive restructuring, we can excel at tackling complex issues like dealing with stress, managing emotions, changing habits, controlling impulses and navigating complicated relationships in the same way that we would get better at any other skill; through dedication and practice! I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques and skills to help clients set and achieve their own therapeutic goals and try to instil a sense of hopefulness and resolve in every session.

Are you seeking your truth? Feeling stuck? Do you want a therapist who really gets you? Perhaps you are part of a relationship or polycule, seeking to work on communication and intimacy in a non-judgemental environment. Being human is challenging. Am I enough? Too much? Feelings of anxiety and inadequacy can interfere with one’s ability to connect with the self and others. Personal growth requires integration of the mind, body, and soul. Understanding past wounds, exploring difficult emotions and identifying behavioral patterns are steps to creating more fulfilling relationships and providing relief from pain and hurt in one’s life. With empathy, acceptance, and openness, I aim to be a guide along your path toward self-discovery, authenticity, and belonging. *I am an LGBTQIA+ Kink/Poly Ally, I believe in social justice and racial equity.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
