I'm dedicated to creating a trusting relationship where people feel safe to open up and share their deep selves. Together we create an environment where people find their own inner qualities, strengths and resolve, make sense of difficult situations and sometimes very difficult pasts, creating a future where they have an intact sense of well-being.

Childhood can be a wonderful and rewarding stage of life, but as our children attempt to navigate the world around them, it can also be fraught with emotion and complexity. In addition to the natural changes that come with growing up, adolescents today are under significantly more pressure in that more is expected from them academically and socially. We are all on a journey through life, doing our best to weather storms and to embrace life striving to become the best version of ourselves.

While growing up, individual experiences countless differing fields of psychology without even realising it. These can range from simple interactions in daily life to the infrequent, emotional trauma which accompanies losing a loved one. In such instances, psychology plays an indirect role in the lives of those affected, yet many choose not to delve deeper into understanding the mental processes and why the situation or event in question had such an impact on them. I am drawn to psychology as I no longer want it to play an indirect role in my life, but instead wish to acknowledge the full extent of the human mind.

As Mahatma Gandhi said: “You can’t change how people treat you or what they say about you. All you can do is change how you react to it.” I believe that we all sometimes need help to manage how we are reacting to the situations in our lives. Hence, the first step in therapy is understanding what is happening in your life & deciding how we can change it.

I am passionate about seeing how people create meaningful relationships, both with themselves and in their environment, that assists them to develop and self-actualise. The way I work is from an Integrative Interactional Approach, this means that I see the individual as a holistic system, by looking at both the person’s internal psychological processes and how a person relates to their environment. How we interact with ourselves, our environment, and the people around us determines our well-being.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
