The library has a collection consisting of 2,090,000 books, over 50,000 types of periodicals, and 30,000 domestic and foreign e-books. It operates numerous specialized data rooms such as the Classics Archives, the North Korean data room, the employment support materials room, and the center for foreign journals as well as other sections such as the EU/UN/IMF section, the international education section, the instructional section, and the reading therapy section. It was designated a Full Depository Library by the UN in January 2001, concluded a partnership agreement with the US Embassy in March 2006, made an agreement with the EU for material donations in November 2006, and was designated a Depository Library by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in December 2007. The library’s continuous efforts towards international data exchange has established itself as a reliable source of international publications.

Beginning with the expansion and installation of the Law Library in January 2007, it has steadily improved its facilities by establishing the Medical Sciences Library on the Yangsan campus in August 2010, and extending and reopening the main library in August 2011 while increasing efforts towards the long-term expansion of its facilities in preparation for an increase in holdings.

Having initiated its computerized information system in 1991, the PNU library introduced a new academic information system named PULIP in 1996. It started to provide a variety of academic information over the Web by adopting Vintage LAS, a type of software for library automation. In October 2006, the library introduced XML-based XMLAS, and adopted the user-friendly Solars7 and PYXIS, which used concepts from Web 2.0, to build a digital library that would meet its users’ specialized needs and improve learning, productivity, and competitiveness at the university.
