Korea-China relations have grown rapidly since Korea-China amity in 1992, and now China is not only the largest importer of Korean goods, but it has also shown astounding growth in cultural and personal exchange. In addition, both Korea and China are closely working on developing their political and diplomatic ties as partners pursuing political stability and peace in Northeast Asia. We are at a point where a more systematic and in-depth understanding and high level of exchange should be achieved in the private sector for continued future growth between the two nations.

The Pusan National University Institute of Chinese Studies was established with the following goals and visions on March 2006, in response to demands of the time:

The first is to raise understanding on China and Korea-China relations through academic studies on the two, and accumulation of systematic results.

The second is to establish exchange networks with major universities and research institutes in China, and conduct joint academic studies to contribute to the development of relations between both nations. Furthermore, the institute has established a network connecting China and world’s prominent institutes of Chinese studies, centered on Korea.

The third is to provide a diverse range of specialized educational programs on China to universities and the local community, based on systematic Chinese studies.

The fourth is to provide the latest information and human network of China to users from the local community.

In addition, the research institute is vigorously engaging in activities such as the China Top Specialist Program, opening various cultural studies, and extension lectures.
