Derrick White signs four-year, $126M extension with Celtics

Former Colorado Buffalo Derrick White is currently at the peak of the sports world. Right after helping lead the Boston Celtics to their first NBA championship in 16 years, White has agreed to a four-year, $126M extension to stay in Boston.

The Parker native played one year with the Buffs, earning first-team all-conference honors in 2017. Since landing with Boston at the NBA trade deadline in 2022, White has emerged as one of the league’s best two-guards.

The Celtics spent the first few days of the NBA free agency period focusing on locking down White until 2029 and achieved their goal. After landing this lucrative extension, White’s finally getting the recognition he deserves.

White is the first player in CU basketball history to sign a nine-figure NBA contract. He’s now on track to make around $30M per year until the end of the 2029 season, making him the new high-paid Buffalo in NBA history by a wide margin.

White has one year remaining on his current contract, where he’ll make around $19M for the 2024-25 season. His new contract will kick in at the beginning of the 2025-26 NBA season.
