After two years playing professional basketball in Bulgaria and Switzerland, Evan Battey is returning home to join the Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff. His official title will be Assistant Coach/Quality Control Analyst.

Battey joins a staff led by Tad Boyle, who enters his fifteenth season at the helm. Also on staff are Tad’s trusted Mike Rohn and Bill Greier, the legendary Danny Manning who joins this summer, and newly promoted staffers Bill Cartun and Zach Ruebesam.

Maybe those are just names, but it is an elite staff with a ton of experience. It’s a tremendous place for Evan to learn the ropes both in the film room and on the recruiting trail, where you know his charisma and sincerity is going to be an asset.

Battey will immediately step in as an important leader on a team full of fresh faces. Three players have transferred in, three more recruits enter the foray, and the rest of the bunch will take big steps forward in terms of role and responsibility.

It also wouldn’t hurt to have him battling Elijah Malone, Assane Diop and Bangot Dak in practice. Battey will probably be the best big man there, as he averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds in his final year at CU and most recently 19 points and 8 rebounds with the Lugano Tigers.

Welcome back, Evan!
