That's the problem with tipping culture, it often revolves around dirty tactics or deceit.
Often? It always does involve scamming and deceit.
The main reason anyone tips is guilt and social pressure. If these didn't exist then people would be tipping way less.
How do you figure?
If I am picking up food, why ask forna tip? Heck, I'm not even using your restaurant. You should offer me a discount ffs
Often? I have never seen this before of the countless number of places I have been in.
The people claiming that “tipping often revolves around dirty tactics or deceit” are usually the same people who deceitfully use the social norms to get the best service possible, then stiff their server and attempt to use all kinds of logical fallacies and BS to say they aren’t being deceitful or harming the worker.
Go figure! 🤷🏼♂️
Ironically you are accusing others of using logical fallacies, but you are using fallacious reasoning yourself: Hasty Generalization: “…usually the same people…”, you are generalizing the behavior of a few to an entire group without substantial evidence.
Ironically, reading is fundamental.
Please show me where I blamed the “entire group” here. You can’t.
I was clearly referring only to those who claim “tipping often revolves around dirty tactics or deceit”.
As for evidence, there’s plenty here in this sub. 🤷🏼♂️
I agree. I am in no way in favor of tipping at counters and all the extensions of this practice that have come up of late. But I have no problem with tipping servers. If someone does, they should stay away from sit down restaurants because, whether they like it or not, that’s how they’re paid and it’s not fair to the worker to work for free.
'Not fair for the worker to work for free.'
You're right. But it isn't our responsibility to pay the workers. That's between them and their employer.
I agree!!
Have a great day!
That's a big NO.
I'd ask them to remove the sticker. If they didn't, I'd leave without my food and never return.
You can hit the $ or % button then zero then green. But yes I agree no chance I would tip after they did that.
The OP said they just pressed the sticker and it worked lol
Lol I didn't see that part, but that's pretty funny.
It's the audacity and disrespect that's the issue.
Sprinkle some entitlement in there too
Respect????? We don’t get tips at the pharmacy, in fact we get chewed tf out, you guys think you’re actually helping people?
Yeah, we have the audacity. You want to make more Money? Invest in yourself and either learn a trade, get a degree or become an actual part of society that everyone else cannot do in their own homes. Stfu
Provided it’s not a full service restaurant, you can hit “3” for no tip.
Wait what difference does it make if it’s a full service restaurant
Are you advocating for stiffing your server?
I'm pretty sure on most terminals you can just hit the green button directly and it will bypass the screen.
Maybe. The only place I regularly see these things with the beg screen you have to select an amount first. Pretty annoying.
Name. The. Restaurant.
Name and shame!
CHICKEN PLUS x SULBING CAFE
Burnaby, BC (a suburb of Vancouver region)
Ok. I'll never go there
What an ugly name
Has anyone actually validated this? All the reports I’ve seen are second hand and the original post in r/mildlyinfuriating has no identifying indicators on what restaurant it’s actually from.
The only official report I saw is them denying it and can’t even figure out where they were first called out originally. Hope this isn’t a restaurant getting destroyed for no reason.
It's local to me the new paper actually picked this up and phoned then they responded by saying tip is optional
Pretty sure you can Google it and the news article comes up
The only articles that I can find are ones that self refer to the Reddit post as a source like this one: https://nowtoronto.com/news/id-tip-0-01-just-to-make-a-point-a-canadian-restaurant-is-catching-heat-for-its-sneaky-tipping-tactics/
The same news article mentioned that when asked, the restaurant denied it was their restaurant. I can’t find any article that’s a first-hand source. Have you seen this happen at that restaurant yourself?
I’ve been there before the food is good but why do this 😭😭
i would peel that shit so fast , lmaooooooooooo. this just goes to show folks are not tipping cuz if they did there wouldnt be a need to do this
Right and hand it back with the stickers and be like "hey I peeled these off for you, some ASSHOLE must've put them on here to make people like me hate places like this lol" anyway enjoy your penny
lmaooooooooo

They now say Permanently Closed. Must be rebranding/renaming due to the backlash 🤣🤣

yea fair I should have thought about it a bit more other then the name I saw in the comments stating what it wad
I saw someone post this and think back I hope this is the right name
Tell them to finish ringing up the order without anything further and if they decline or act stupid, simply notify them that you're leaving.
Id press % and 0
It’s a penny for them, then.
and in canada it would round down to $0 lol smart
It only rounds up or down if you're paying cash. It doesn't round for card payments.
I think they’re referring to Canada doing away with the penny.
Comment deleted by user
I am Canadian, I know what they are talking about. However they are semi-incorrect, it only rounds if you are paying cash. If you are paying by card, you still pay the exact amount. You can check your card statements when in Canada.
Comment deleted by user
This is literally not true. Check your credit card statements and let me know if they are all rounded to the nearest five cents.
Simple solution, remove sticker + press that option.
If they make a big deal about it, just vote with your feet (i.e. don't come back and encourage others to avoid them).
call the local food inspector gang. ive been to a restaurant that was doing so many disgusting thing... when the inspector visited they closed right after.
Ridiculous.
Can't just press it anyway? We all know what's under there. Screw them, probably illegal.
It's a touch screen with a label over it so unless you remove the label your touch won't register
Even so, you just need to press button 3 to skip the tip
They might put 100% tip under there just to screw with people.
Chicken Plus x Sulbing Cafe in Burnaby, BC, Canada.
Damn, I thought my last post bad. This is shady as fuck.
Name the spot
select %.
Enter value of 0.
great success.
Tip %. 0. Bye. Still shady shit on their part though.
Chargeback with the photo.
Report them to the credit card company--- all of them.
Report them to the police for theft by deception.
😳
Extortion
It would be fucked up if underneath that sticker was a 20% on the “TIP” and the “Thank You” below becomes more insulting
This is so brazen. Someone should report that restaurant.
I am picking off stickers with my ass while looking directly at the cashier. I will never return to that establishment as well.
Your ass must be amazingly talented to find the corner of a little sticker and peel it away!
I would hit the red button saying “is this the no tip button?” Then slowly grab my card while looking them deep in the eyes and leave for good.
$0.01
Report them to the IRS and state sales tax office. Since tip is mandatory, it's a taxable service charge, and not a tip. Screw them. Restaurant will have to backpay a significant amount of taxes on that.
Watch me remove the tape and hit the no tip option✌🏼
Tipping a counter worker who rang u up and handed u your food should never be required.. if someone wants to be kind and reward good service than thats up to them.
After moving to Japan over 14 years ago, have never missed tipping. Its such an uncomfortable place to put a customer after a nice meal. I don't get it at all. When I have great service, that person gets to keep their service job and the world moves on. We don't tip nurses or teachers ... why waiter/esses?
What’s the name of the garbage place so we never go there!
Shouldn’t have to jump through these hoops just to buy some food.
I would cancel the transaction and refuse to pay until they remove the sticker. That's absolute theft forcing people to tip while ordering at a counter. All you did was shove a payment device in my face. You deserve a tip before any services rendered? Hell naw.
Tip $0.01
They’ll get the hint
When you have to get creative to maintain the status quo...
😆
Rip that shit off.
Hit the $ sign and put 1 cent .
Percent and then zero still seems to be an option.
Vancouver, or rather here in BC it's awful. Subway has tip options now and if you go to a brewery where you walk up to a fridge and get your 4 pack and go to pay, you're bombarded with a tip option. Wait staff in BC are not paid poorly. They legally can't be. They get the same as the rest. Are we to tip everyone now? For literally doing their damn job? Travelling Europe and Asia where tip culture is only at tourist jaded shops, it's not normal to tip at all. In North America, Canada specifically it's abused to death. The US? I get that some places pay super low at restaurants so I get it. But Canada? Lol no. Piss off with that bs. I'm done giving them a tip.
Tipping culture itself should just be abandoned. Go to Japan, you get 10 times the better service and no tip is expected. (You sometimes get scolded for tipping even) Just build the tip into the price of food so customers don't have to guess or be frustrated by tipping amount. We are expected to tip 20% for a food that is already more expensive and of lower quality with bad services. And WTF is with tipping on takeout foods? You do all the work and expected to tip 20% for them putting it in a bag for you.
% 0
lol that’s class 😆
They have a no tip option, big red x
