12 mins agoChicago White Sox pitching prospect Noah Schultz was activated from the temporarily inactive list. Schultz, the No. 18 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline had been placed on the list July 12th, but no specific reason was given. Schultz did pitch in the Futures Game two days later, but got hit hard in his performance. Schultz stands at 6'9, 220 pounds and has split his time evenly between High-A Winston Salem and Double Birmingham. In seven starts at each stop this season, he has combined for a 3.13 ERA with a sparkling 0.95 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings. Even though the White Sox are in a clear rebuild, Schultz is unlikely to make his debut in 2024, but he has a realistic chance to make the big leagues next season. As one of the top pitching prospects, dynasty managers should already be rostering the tall lefty, while managers in redraft leagues should file his name away for future years.Source: Milb.com
27 mins agoThe San Diego Padres have demoted outfield prospect Tirso Ornelas back to Triple-A El Paso. It was as brief as a promotion as one could have for the Padres No. 25 per MLB Pipeline as the outfielder had his contract purchased by the big-league club on Sunday and then was sent back down hours later. Ornelas, 24, has been having a solid season for El Paso with a .316 batting average to go along with 12 homers and 57 RBI. With such a quick promotion, Ornelas was unable to get into a big-league game, but he is officially on the 40-man roster and could be an option down the road for San Diego. Even with a promotion, he can be left alone in all formats.Source: MiLB
8 hours agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman prospect Brayden Taylor had a solid first half for High-A Bowling Green, posting a .279-13-43-62-24 line over 76 games. The 22-year-old impressed so much that he rose 22 spots on MLB.com's latest prospect re-rank, going from 82 to 60. A promotion to Double-A in the second half appears to be in the cards, although his MLB debut isn't expected to be until 2026. It's not unreasonable to think he could see a late-season debut in 2025, however, so dynasty managers should be keeping an eye on the former first-round pick's ascension.Source: MLB.com
9 hours agoDetroit Tigers shortstop prospect Kevin McGonigle finished the first half with a 23-game streak of getting on base via hit or walk for Single-A Lakeland and will look to ride that momentum to a promotion to High-A in the second half. The 19-year-old put together a strong .329-3-34-39-19 first half and an impressive BB:K of 34:24, which shot his prospect status way up. On MLB.com's July prospect list re-rank, McGonigle was the biggest riser, going from 96th overall to 65th overall, a jump of 31 spots. His ETA for an MLB debut is 2027, but with his 60-grade hit tool and impressive eye, it very well could be sooner than that.Source: MLB.com
9 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers catching/first base prospect Dalton Rushing hit safely in eight of his last nine games for Double-A Tulsa before the break, going 12-for-35 (.343) over that stretch. For the season he's amassed a .266-10-46-36-0 line. It's unclear, however, if the Dodgers' top prospect is closer to a promotion or a trade, as his name has been tossed around in potential trade scenarios since the Dodgers are in need of pitching. They also have their seventh-ranked prospect Diego Cartaya at Triple-A and Will Smith signed for the long-term if catcher is going to be his position, as well as Freddie Freeman cemented at first base. MLB.com projects Rushing's debut to be 2025 and with his talent, the 23-year-old talent should already be on dynasty managers' radar, if not rostered.Source: MiLB.com
9 hours agoSt. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Tink Hence was having an effective first half for Double-A Springfield before injuries derailed him. The injuries don't sound serious, although the 21-year-old had an MRI done on his arm anyway which came back clean. The righty was supposed to take part in the Futures Game but decided to bypass it so he could focus on getting healthy. The plan was to have him throw live BP this past weekend and have him rejoin the rotation after the break. Hence posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 24.9% K-BB% to this point and is currently ranked as the Cardinals' top overall prospect. The injuries may have delayed his potential major league debut, but he certainly appears primed for a promotion to Triple-A, and with his strikeout upside, redraft managers should be ready to pounce if he were to get the call at some point this season.Source: Chris Neyenhouse
10 hours agoBuffalo Bills right tackle Spencer Brown (shoulder) said at a youth football camp that he's co-hosting with tight end Dalton Kincaid that he'll be a full-go when training camp starts next week after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. Despite having offseason shoulder surgery, Brown managed to start in all 17 regular-season games in 2023 in his third year in the NFL for the first time in his career. He was originally a third-round selection (93rd overall) in the 2021 draft out of Northern Iowa and has started all but three of the 44 games he's appeared in over his three NFL campaigns. The 26-year-old could be eased into training camp practices this summer, but barring a setback with his surgically-repaired shoulder, he should be ready for Week 1 of the regular season as Buffalo's starting right tackle.Source: The Buffalo News - Ryan O'Halloran
10 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers right-handed reliever Abner Uribe (knee) announced on his Instagram account that he underwent season-ending knee surgery on Wednesday morning. With regular closer Devin Williams (back) missing the entire first half of the 2024 season, Uribe opened the year with an opportunity to earn saves for the Brew Crew. The 24-year-old Dominican did post a career-high three saves in the early going but was quickly sent to the minors after giving up 11 earned runs on 15 hits (one homer) while walking 12 and striking out 14 in 14 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in just his second season in the major leagues. Uribe has a live arm and posted a 30.7% strikeout rate as a rookie in 2023, but he's going to need to show better control if he wants to be a high-leverage, late-inning option in Milwaukee in 2025 once he's fully healthy.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Curt Hogg
10 hours agoFree-agent veteran left-hander Rich Hill said he is ramping up throwing bullpen sessions in preparation to sign with a team in August as a versatile pitcher. It appears that Hill is healthy, but it remains to be seen how much interest he'll generate on the open market after going a combined 8-14 with a bloated 5.41 ERA (4.87 FIP) and 1.52 WHIP with 129 strikeouts and 58 walks in 146 1/3 innings pitched over 32 appearances (27 starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres last year. He's no spring chicken at 44 years old but does have plenty of MLB experience with 19 seasons under his belt. If Hill is picked up by a club in the second half of the season, he won't be guaranteed to have a big role and will most likely operate as a swingman/long-reliever out of the bullpen, leaving him minimal fantasy appeal.Source: 570 LA Sports - David Vassegh
10 hours agoNew York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (shoulder, triceps) is expected to make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse this weekend. Barring a setback, Senga's rehab start this weekend is expected to be his last before he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list to make his 2024 debut in the major leagues. The 31-year-old threw 67 pitches over 4 2/3 frames in his last rehab start for Syracuse on Sunday, which was his third total rehab outing. A strained right shoulder initially kept Senga from starting the season in New York's rotation before he suffered a setback due to a triceps injury. The Japanese hurler was the Mets' ace in 2023 with a 12-7 record, 2.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and impressive 29.1% strikeout rate and shouldn't be floating around any waiver wires with his 2024 debut right around the corner.Source: Newsday - Tim Healey
11 hours agoMiami Heat guard Josh Richardson (shoulder) resumed shooting on July 2 and is optimistic he'll be ready for training camp. The veteran averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last season. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury in February and underwent surgery in March, limiting him to only 43 appearances. If Richardson can stay healthy during the 2024-25 campaign, he has a chance to land a routine role in the rotation while also seeing a few starts. However, he's not expected to be a consistent fantasy contributor.Source: Anthony Chiang
11 hours agoChicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Noah Schultz only managed to get one batter out in this year's All-Star Futures Game. He allowed three runs on three hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. His lone out came via strikeout. Despite his woes in Arlington, Schultz is one of the most promising pitching prospects in MLB. His slider is considered to be one of the best pitches in minor-league baseball. As of right now, the 20-year-old lefty isn't expected to make it to the big leagues for another few years.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoCincinnati Reds third base prospect Cam Collier was the star of this year's All-Star Futures Game, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run to put the National League on the board. The Reds' No. 3 prospect (per MLB.com) was subsequently named the Futures Game's MVP. Despite his success in Arlington, Collier is having a subpar season with High-A Dayton. Through 78 games, he's slashing .231/.309/.405 with 12 doubles, 13 homers, 48 RBI and a 31:87 BB:K. He's still only 19 and has plenty of time to develop, though. As of right now, he's expected to make his MLB debut in 2026.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoNew York Knicks forward Julius Randle (shoulder) continues to rehab following surgery. Fortunately, he's moving in the right direction, with SNY's Ian Begley reporting things are "going incredibly well." The 29-year-old averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season and is eligible to sign a four-year contract worth as much as $181.5 million on August 3. Yet, both sides aren't eager to get a new deal done. Randle believes he can be a difference-maker for the Knicks in 2024-25. However, with Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Mikal Bridges on the roster, Randle could take a step back on the offensive end.Source: Ian Begley
11 hours agoAtlanta Braves catcher prospect Drake Baldwin went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in this year's All-Star Futures Game. Hit around 107 mph, it was one of the hardest-hit balls of the night. Baldwin's performance in Arlington is a solid reflection of how he's been playing since his promotion to Triple-A. In 24 games with the Gwinnett Stripers, he's slashing .309/.444/.532 with three doubles, six homers, and 17 RBI. Atlanta's No. 10 prospect (per MLB.com), Baldwin is expected to make his MLB debut sometime next year.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Flexen is scheduled to toe the slab to begin the second half of the season in Friday's series opener against the division-rival Kansas City Royals. Flexen hasn't been particularly relevant in fantasy in 2024, posting a 4.82 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 71:36 K:BB over 97 innings, but he should draw some interest in deep leagues against a middling Royals lineup on Friday. In four appearances versus Kansas City in his career, the 30-year-old soft-throwing right-hander has a 2.25 ERA and 12:4 K:BB across 20 frames during this stretch. Consider Flexen a low-end streaming option for fantasy purposes in his first start post-All-Star break.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha hopes his recent success carries into the second half when he gets the ball in Friday's series opener at home against the division-rival Chicago White Sox. Wacha has been very reliable for the Royals over his last nine starts, generating a 2.61 ERA and 47:17 K:BB over 51 2/3 innings since May 9. The 33-year-old former All-Star has revived his career in recent years, and he'll belong in all fantasy lineups for the start of the second half on Friday. In three appearances versus the White Sox since 2023, Wacha has a microscopic 0.90 ERA alongside a 19:4 K:BB through 20 frames during this period.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoBoston Red Sox catching prospect Kyle Teel shined in this year's All-Star Futures Game. The only player on either team to collect multiple hits, Teel was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles. The young catcher's performance was hardly surprising, as he's been fantastic in Double-A this year. Through 65 games, he's slashing .298/.384/.455 with 16 homers, eight doubles, 49 RBI, and six stolen bases. The No. 3 prospect in Boston's stacked farm system, Teel is expected to make his MLB debut next season.Source: MLB.com
11 hours agoCincinnati Reds starting pitching prospect Rhett Lowder pitched in the fifth inning of this year's All-Star Futures Game. On 14 pitches, he allowed a hit and struck out Tampa Bay Rays top prospect Xavier Isaac on a slider. The young righty threw 10 strikes and collected three whiffs. After a rough stretch in Double-A, a solid performance at the Futures Game will hopefully be exactly what Lowder needs to turn things around. Cincinnati's top prospect (per MLB.com) is expected to make his MLB debut sometime this year.Source: MLB
12 hours agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta will draw a tough assignment in his first start out of the All-Star break when he heads to the mound for Friday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. Pivetta produced a nice first half for the BoSox, striking out 88 batters and walking just 20 with a strong 1.11 WHIP across 75 1/3 innings of action. Fantasy managers will want to see the 31-year-old Canadian right-hander improve on his mediocre 4.18 ERA in 14 starts, though. While there's reason to believe Pivetta's ability to stabilize ratios for fantasy managers will translate to greater success overall down the stretch, he'll be hard to trust on Friday against a vaunted Dodgers offense that ranks third in runs scored (479) and home runs (129) this season.Source: MLB.com
12 hours agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Noble Meyer pitched in the second inning of this year's All-Star Futures Game, striking out two batters on 18 pitches. In total, he faced five hitters. He might have retired the side in order, if not for Chicago White Sox infield prospect Colson Montgomery reaching on an error. Regardless, Meyer's stuff looked fantastic. The young righty collected five whiffs, and his sinker sat around 93 mph. Miami's top prospect (per MLB.com) is expected to make his MLB debut in 2026.Source: MLB.com
12 hours agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Eflin will kick off his second half in Friday's scheduled start in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees. After leading the American League with 16 wins a year ago, Eflin has regressed during his second year in Tampa Bay while registering a 3.99 ERA (3.66 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP over 99 1/3 innings of work. Even so, the 30-year-old veteran right-hander owns a shiny 78:9 K:BB covering his 17 starts and also leads the major leagues with 0.8 walks per nine innings. While Friday's matchup is a tough one on paper, Eflin has dominated the Yankees to the tune of a 1.50 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 48:6 K:BB in 42 frames against them in his career, and he'll be worth deploying in all season-long fantasy leagues with some contrarian DFS appeal on a full slate.Source: MLB.com
12 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola is set to take the ball to open the second half of the season in Friday's series opener against the crosstown-rival Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Nola put together a rock-solid first half for the Phillies, logging a 3.38 ERA (3.77 FIP) and 1.02 WHIP with 116 strikeouts and 27 walks over 119 2/3 innings (19 starts). Although the 31-year-old former All-Star has a 4.60 ERA in five starts against the Pirates since 2021, he also owns a sharp 35:6 K:BB across 29 1/3 frames against them during this span. Nola will be a confident fantasy option across all formats in Friday's favorable matchup against Pittsburgh.Source: MLB.com
12 hours agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole is slated to toe the rubber for the start of the second half of the year in Friday's series opener against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays in the Bronx. It was an injury-shortened first half for Cole, one that positions the 33-year-old reigning American League Cy Young winner as an obvious buy-low candidate in fantasy leagues after yielding a lackluster 5.40 ERA (5.13 FIP), 1.45 WHIP, and 26:9 K:BB over 23 1/3 innings (five starts) so far this year. In eight appearances versus the Rays since 2022, however, Cole holds a 2.34 ERA with a 64:15 K:BB through 50 innings and will remain a set-and-forget fantasy play in all settings when play resumes on Friday.Source: MLB.com
12 hours agoThe Los Angeles Chargers placed rookie linebacker Junior Colson (illness) on the Non-Football Illness list on Wednesday. The specifics of Colson's illness/injury remain unclear, but it means that he won't be able to take part in on-field workouts for the start of training camp next week. The 21-year-old third-round pick back in April out of Michigan can be activated at any time during camp and could still be ready in plenty of time for the 2024 regular-season opener in September. Still, it's bad news for a young player trying to get up to speed going into his first NFL season. When healthy, Colson was expected to compete for the starting job at middle linebacker for the Bolts with both Eric Kendricks and Kenneth Murray having moved on in the offseason.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
12 hours agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks recently received high praise from his teammate. During a sit-down with Bleacher Report, Packers quarterback Jordan Love said he believes Wicks is going to have a monster year. The second-year wideout totaled 39 receptions, 581 yards, and four touchdowns during his rookie season. Wicks has shown flashes of big-play ability, but the lack of a true No. 1 receiver does put more stress on Wicks and his teammates. The fact Love is saying these things about Wicks should mean that the young wideout will have an increased role next season. Fantasy managers should monitor this situation heading into camp. Wicks might be a sneaky late round option as fantasy draft season approaches.Source: Bleacher Report
12 hours agoThe Houston Texans placed fullback Andrew Beck (calf), cornerback D'Angelo Ross (undisclosed) and linebacker Del'Shawn Phillips (shoulder) on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Wednesday, meaning they will not be ready to take part in the start of training camp next week. Beck strained his calf earlier this offseason and now won't be able to take part in practices to kick off the summer, but it doesn't necessarily mean he won't be ready for Week 1 of the regular season this fall. With Beck sidelined for the start of camp, Troy Hairston will get more repetitions as the club's fullback. The 28-year-old Beck played in 15 games (12 starts) in his first year with the Texans in 2023 and had 11 receptions for 55 yards and two touchdowns while adding five rushing attempts for three yards and another TD. He is not on the fantasy radar.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
12 hours agoHouston Texans tight end Teagan Quitoriano (groin, oblique) has made a full recovery from his groin and oblique surgeries and is expected to be active for training camp next week, according to a league source. Quitoriano wasn't placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list, so that just confirms it. He could be eased into practices this summer, but barring a setback, he should be ready to go for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. The 24-year-old was limited to seven games (five starts) in 2023 in his sophomore campaign due to injuries and was held to just two receptions for 33 yards. While he did have flashes in his rookie season, Quitoriano is a blocking-first tight end for the Texans and shouldn't be on the fantasy radar at all going into the 2024 campaign. In 17 career NFL games, he's been targeted just 16 times.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
12 hours agoHouston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins was recently in the running for the league's top wide receivers. This is a well deserved mention after Collins put together a breakout campaign last season. He hauled in 80 receptions for nearly 1,300 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games. This performance earned him a three-year, $72 million extension this offseason. Collins is now one of the highest-paid players at his position. Recently, NFL executives, coaches, and personnel members were surveyed to determine the best wideouts in the league. Collins fell short but was an honorable mention. It's pretty impressive to see Collins up there after one outstanding campaign. It'll be interesting to see if Collins can replicate it with Stefon Diggs competing with him for targets next season.Source: Sports Illustrated
