What to Know

Critics Consensus

Home Alone's uneven but frequently funny premise, stretched unreasonably thin, is buoyed by Macaulay Culkin's cute performance and strong supporting stars.

Catherine Dunphy Toronto Star This is going to be a big hit with the kids. Word will get out in the schoolyard that Home Alone is really funny. Just don’t let the kids near the iron after they’ve seen it. Nov 30, 2023 Full Review George Landau St. Louis Post-Dispatch Home Alone isn't high art, but it's a swell gift to movie-going families. Nov 29, 2023 Full Review Lynden Barber Sydney Morning Herald Using split-second editing, playfully choreographed violence and exaggerated responses such as the bug-eyed double take, director Chris Columbus has created a live action comedy in the style of a Warner Bros cartoon. Nov 29, 2023 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row This film truly captures something enduring about what it's like to be a kid, and it continues to speak to that child in all of us. Dec 14, 2023 Full Review Marylynn Uricchio Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Without being the least bit schmaltzy or cloying, Home Alone manages to impart the holiday spirit. Its saving grace is an unexpected vein of irreverent humor that verges on the black. Idan Charles L Old but gold . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/30/24 Full Review Isaac H This is one of the best Christmas movies that i ever seen the acting the plot it was everything that you would wanted in a movie 10/10. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Audience Member one of the best holiday movies ever made. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review william s As a 90s kid this is my quintessential Christmas movie. The movie really leans on Macaulay Culkin's performance, and luckily for all of his, he absolutely shines. He brings this effortless wit and "wisdom beyond his years" vibe to the role that normally feels painful and forced with child actors. Not here. Also, this isn't taking away from the other supporting actors, they all turn it wonderful performances. As an adult, Katherine O'Hara's mother just trying to get home to her son hits so much different. Her showing up Christmas morning just warms my little (now big... possibly enlarged) heart. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Darragh W A general over-hyped classic! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Lucas t 2nd favourite Christmas film, the best one out of the series. 7.3/10. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
