Geordie Gray The Australian No self-respecting adult plans to get sucked into a YA-thriller, but its hard to resist a show as ludicrously twisty and jam-packed with storylines as Shelter. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Kylie Northover The Age (Australia) This is definitely not Scooby Doo, but a bonkers web of shape-changing mysteries and worth sticking with as it slowly untangles. Rated: 4/5 Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian It feels odd to call an adaptation of a Harlan Coben thriller “charming”, but the eight-part Shelter series is just that. Rated: 4/5 Aug 24, 2023 Full Review Louisa Mellor Den of Geek Try to make sense of it all, and you’ll develop a stress-based tic. Relax into its weird cocktail of high school sweetness and real-world horrors, and you could have a good time. Rated: 3/5 Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Neely Swanson Beverly Hills Courier Although not a fan of Coben’s work—hard to follow—I found myself hooked by the third episode and you probably will be too. Sometimes it’s just fun to be totally lost in something. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Martin Brown Common Sense Media The plot is layered with various mysteries, small and large, with the emphasis not only on whodunnit but also what was it and how does everything fit together. The difference here is that Shelter is geared toward a young adult audience. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Steve G The horrible acting and cheesy dialogue distracted from any mystery. By far the worst of Coben’s shows. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Michael T The dialogue it's just a little to shallow and fake. It's hard to believe that these kids are real. Just a bit too overwritten. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Pengi V why did this eat so much Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review Kathrine P Disappointing. Poor screen play and writing of the story Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Conrad C It wasn't what they left out that rubbed me wrong, it was what they added in. When you squeeze three books into one eight-episode show, things are bound to be left out. Shelter skillfully chips off pieces without you even realizing it, but keeping all the essential plotlines. What is beyond me, though, is the fabricating of my least-favorite plot line from thin air, and proceeding to spend a disproportionate amount of time on it. The main trio did a fantastic job of acting, with Adrian Greensmith proving himself charismatic and charming as Spoon. If the show stuck to just editing the original material instead of adding things in, this could've been elevated to a truly memorable adaption. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Sunday Night Streaming o Harlan Coben's Shelter Season 1 - 7.5 - This show proved to be a delightful surprise in the world of television. Sure, it might wear its quirkiness on its sleeve with characters like Bat Lady, Sunglasses Man, Octoface, and Spoon, but once you embrace the eccentricity, you're in for a captivating story with an exceptional cast. The chemistry between Mickey, Ema, Spoon, and Rachel is the beating heart of the show. The plot is a rollercoaster of twists, turns, and misdirection's, keeping you hooked from episode to episode. What sets this show apart is its commitment to tying up loose ends, offering satisfying resolutions to every lingering question. The one puzzle that nags at me is why Ashley is relentlessly pursued by child kidnappers. The show didn't quite provide a satistactory answer, leaving me curious and intrigued. The Spoon-Ema kiss, always brought up in quintessential Spoon style, adds a delightful layer of complexity. For a teen drama, 'Shelter' tackles weighty topics, like the Abeola storyline, adding depth to the narrative. The seamless integration of history with suspense and drama is commendable. Although I haven't read the book, the adaptation to television was executed brilliantly. Here's to hoping for more from this series. I'll eagerly tune in for a second season, should it come to pass.
