Nina Li Coomes The Atlantic In Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, the preservation of mood pays proper homage to the author’s words. The show’s social commentary, in turn, allows a retelling of an old story to resonate powerfully in our current moment. Oct 31, 2023 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine House of Usher also dares to bring Poe into the most contemporary of contexts... Oct 27, 2023 Full Review Leila Latif Guardian Mike Flanagan’s final Netflix offering is a spooky, grisly, sumptuously gothic treat Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2023 Full Review Pallavi Keswani The Hindu Flanagan pushes his own creative limits to experiment with fresh approaches. But as with most experiments, the person conducting it tends to tread carefully. Nonetheless, the show promises a unique watch, just ahead of Halloween. Jan 19, 2024 Full Review Aditya Mani Jha Firstpost For fans of horror and adjacent genres, The Fall of the House of Usher is a delight from beginning to end, proving once again Flanagan’s reputation as a bankable showrunner. Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Aglaia Berlutti Hipertextual For his Netflix farewell, Mike Flanagan transforms Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale into a sinister version of greed. However, between the horror and suspense, the result falls short of his previous adaptations. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: B- Dec 19, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Ash P For being directed by Mike Flanagan, this really was worth a watch as well as a love letter to Edgar Alan Poe's poetry. Not to mention, each episode are titled by one of his poems as a nice homage. Even the characters, according to sources, are symbolized as a given sin, which I recommend you look up ScreenRant for more information. As speaking of the actors, they do play their performances pretty well as this was also well-written even in a modern take as the setting goes. Hands down, Carla Gugino was the best throughout the series, for being the center of everyone's attention without giving too much away. I will admit, this really does lean heavy into the family drama, but keep in mind, it is how the whole series goes when it comes to the Usher family. I will also admit, a couple of the deaths do feel a little underwhelming and I do question a couple of the family members' given sin when looking up information. This series does give off pretty damn good creepy imagery throughout the series as part of the poems written by Edgar Alan Poe. If you're a fan of creepy imagery or even a fan of Edgar Alan Poe's work, along with Mike Flanagan's work, I recommend giving this a watch. 9/10. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Lily R This was so good! Mike Flanagan never disappoints. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Antoine K Can’t say it’s not interesting enough to hook you on because it really is addicting but I have a hard time with stories ridden with despicable characters you have literally no one to root for. You just wait for chaos to unravel on all these mofos. Which can be satisfying but also makes you question why you’re watching and are you better than them for expecting such violence. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Thomas h Banal and trite in it's approach to consistent flashes of "ghosts" throughout the series rather than trying to build good storylines and dialogue. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review B J I have loved scary movies since the age of 4. The Tell-Tale Heart was one of the first stories I read in elementary school, and was in the House of Usher play in middle school. I fell in love with E. A. Poe! So, I was ready to see what was done! I really liked it! Good writing, casting, and horror scenes that actually made me react! If Netflix or the writers, could curb the "F" word SO much, its over the top in their shows! I have only known one person in my orbit, that was very inconsiderate and spoke that way. I could never invite her around my family. Other friends that cursed themselves, would get uncomfortable with her "MF" & "F-ing" usage. I stopped a show immediately, because they had a kid using unnecessary language now. Trust me, if you can write well, folks that speak that way won't miss it! That's why the 4 1/2, not a 5 rating. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Sebastian E A realy good series. A little bit of horror, a little bit of slasher and a good, solid story. And a realy good looking Carla Gugino în her 50's. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
