SAN DIEGO — In just over a month, Mission Bay’s currently gloomy skies will be transformed into a sea of colorful booms for the Fourth of July.

The time-honored tradition of watching fireworks light the night sky along San Diego’s waterfront continues this year, with various shows planned across the region.

The festivities will start early with a fireworks display scheduled for 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, put on by Discover Mission Bay, a group of hotels, restaurants and other businesses, in partnership with SeaWorld San Diego.

Set to a festive soundtrack in partnership with 101.5 KGB, the 18-minute firework show will be viewable across Mission Bay.

Fireworks won’t be set off from a barge on the water at the center of Sail Bay as in years past. Instead, they will be set off from SeaWorld at the south end of the bay, where they can be done higher and seen from greater distances, according to officials.

SeaWorld San Diego will also hold its own annual Independence Day fireworks display on the Fourth.

Discover Mission Bay will host a variety of fun activities throughout the long, holiday weekend.

Additionally, the Big Bay Boom fireworks show on San Diego Bay is scheduled for 9 p.m. July 4.

This show is set off from four barges on San Diego Bay and can be seen as far north as Shelter Island to the Coronado bridge in the south, with music broadcast live on 100.7 BIG FM radio.

Coronado will also host its annual Fourth of July parade, with celebrations continuing throughout the day and culminating with the fireworks display.

Various other fireworks shows will take place in North County, East County and in the South Bay. To learn more, visit sandiego.org/campaigns/summer-in-san-diego/4th-of-july.aspx.

Additionally, SeaWorld’s summer fireworks display in celebration of its 60th anniversary will commence for weekends starting this Saturday. The fireworks will be done daily June 8 through Aug. 11.
