SANTEE — Investigators say an 82-year-old man fatally shot his 79-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide at a senior living facility in Santee, a sheriff’s official said Tuesday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Claire Soulner was killed and David Soulner shot himself around 11:25 a.m. on Lantern Crest Way just east of state Route 67, said homicide Lt. Michael Krugh.

Officials at the Lantern Crest senior living facility could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

On the day of the shooting, deputies arrived at the Lantern Crest complex and determined the two had died after an apparent “head trauma,” Krugh said.

Krugh said the husband was the only suspect in the deaths.

No other information was immediately available.
