Del Mar Girl Scout Troop 3917 and Solana Beach Troop 3224 have recently completed their Girl Scout Bronze Award – Girl Scout USA’s highest honor awarded to fifth grade juniors. The Girl Scout Bronze Award is a team effort where fifth grade junior Girl Scouts work together to explore their community, identify an issue they care about, and address it.

Studies show that people who garden report feeling happier and less stressed. Troops 3917 and 3224 have created a lending kiosk for succulent clippings — a project approved by Del Mar’s City Council.

Community members will be encouraged to stop by and take a clipping and/or leave one behind in hopes of promoting residential plant biodiversity and an opportunity for neighbors to give back to one another. This permanent succulent kiosk was built to promote happiness and overall good health among North County communities and residents.

The Girl Scout Troops would like to recognize Ron Prater, a Del Mar resident and accomplished woodworker, who generously donated his time and talents to design and build the succulent kiosk. The Girl Scout Troops also thank Jeff Moore of Solana Succulents who helped encourage and educate the Girl Scouts about succulents and provided clippings.

All are invited to attend the free grand opening on Saturday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at the Del Mar Civic Center for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and free giveaways.

Project funding was provided by the Del Mar Foundation via grant. —Girl Scout news release
