CRIME STATISTICS OF PAKISTAN...............................................................................................10

CRIME
2
Crime is define as “An act punishable by law; usually considered an evil act; “a long record of crimes”. In

the sociological field, crime is the breach of a rule or law for which some which some governing authority

or force may ultimately prescribe a punishment. The word crime originates or derived from the Latin word

Crimen.

Crime is everywhere. Even though countries define crime differently in their criminal codes, no country is

without crime.

An increasing number of countries now report statistics concerning traditional crimes (murder, robbery,

rape, theft, burglary, fraud, and assault) to the United Nations surveys. Crimes rate computed from surveys

are universally higher than those of official records.

There are so many kinds or types of crimes such as; Crimes against person or people, Crime against

Property, White Collar Crimes, Victimless Crimes etc.

Types of Crimes
CRIME AGAINST PERSON
Crime against person / people includes Murder, Attempt to Murder, Hurt, Rioting, and Assault on Public

Servant, Rape or Sexual Assault, Kidnapping or Abduction etc.

RAPE / SEXUAL ASSAULT

Being raped or sexually assaulted is a very distressing experience and the effects can be long

lasting. Victims who have suffered sexual attacks describe feeling like angry, guilty, ashamed,

powerless, and depressed. Victims sometimes have difficulty in sleeping or eating, and find it hard to

concentrate. It can be very difficult to talk about the attack to friends or family, even some people do not

want to tell anyone about what has happened.

A woman who is the victim of sexual violence may be eligible for criminal injuries

compensation. Normally, the crime must have been reported to the Police.

As many as 42843 cases of child abuse were reported in Pakistan during last nine years,

reports Madagaar helpline run by Lawyers for Human Rights & Legal Aid LHRLA.
3
Releasing the data on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day falling on November 20, the

Madadgaar said 20013 boys and 22830 girls were subjected to violence during the period from

January 2000 to November 2008.

HATE CRIMES

Hate Crimes is defined as “The perpetrator’s prejudice against any identifiable group of people

is a factor in determining who is victimized.

A victim of hate crime does not have to be a member of a minority or someone who is generally

considered to be “vulnerable”. For example, the friends of a visible minority ethnic person, lesbian or

refugee may be victimized because of their association.

Hate Crimes fall inside three areas:

• Domestic Violence

• Racist Incidents

• Homophobic Crime

If you are a victim of Hate Crime, you should talk to someone, don’t suffer in silence. Even if

you don't want to report it to police talking to someone can often help. Keep a record of the time, dates,

place and what happened. This is helping if you ever want to take action e.g. report the to an agency.

MURDER

The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice. It can be

difficult to sort our practical matters while you are coping with losing someone suddenly. Law can help

you with claiming criminal injuries compensation.

Losing someone through a violent crime is a devastating experience. Every person experiences

sadness differently and often feelings change day-to-day. Over a period of time people often feel a wide

range of emotions, you may feel angry, guilty, depressed and sometimes suicidal. Although life may

never be the same again, talking about the experience can help.

4
VIOLENCE

Violence can include verbal abuse, threats and even physical assault. It can take place in the

home, on the street, when you are work or with friends. Violence is the exertion of force so as to injure

or abuse. The word is used broadly to describe the destructive action of natural phenomena like storms

and earthquakes. More frequently the word describes forceful and intentional injury to people, and

verbal and emotional abuse towards others.

KIDNAPPING

Kidnapping is the taking away a person against the person’s will, usually to hold the person in

false imprisonment, a confinement without legal authority. Kidnapping requires one person takes and

carries another away, by force or fraud, without the consent of the person taken and against lawful.

This may be done for ransom or in furtherance of another crime, or in connection with a child custody

dispute.

precisely, Robbery was defined as taking the property of another, with the intent to permanently

deprive the person of that person of that property, by means of force or fear.

of reasons, including depression, shame, guilt, description, physical pain, pressure, anxiety,

financial difficulties, or other undesirable situations. According to World Health Organization

(WHO), 10 to 20 million attempt suicides every year.

TRADITION OR CRIME

In most backwards areas of the Pakistan there is another type of law system in which a woman is described

as KARI and another type is VANI. In Kari the woman or girl is killed by the decision of high class

members because they have done something unusual from the traditions of their families. They were

buried alive and later on buried without any Islamic way. Some of these cases have been highlighted by

media and till now there killers are not captured. In Vani the girl is given to the other family in sake of

forgiveness of the men which has victimized the other family.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence (also known as domestic abuse or spousal abuse) occurs when a family
member, partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically dominate another.
Domestic violence often refers to violence between spouses, or spousal abuse but can also
7
include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners. Domestic violence occurs in all
cultures; people of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes and classes can be perpetrators of
domestic violence. Domestic violence is perpetrated by both men and women.

Domestic violence has many forms, including physical violence, sexual abuse, emotional
abuse, intimidation, economic deprivation, and threats of violence. Violence can be criminal
and includes physical assault (hitting, pushing, shoving, etc.), sexual abuse (unwanted or
forced sexual activity), and stalking. Although emotional, psychological and financial abuse is
not criminal behaviors, they are forms of abuse and can lead to criminal violence.

At least 17 women have died in Kyrgyzstan in the past two years at the hands of physically abusive

husbands. It is a sad reminder that many Kyrgyz women are unable to escape the horrors of domestic

violence. Statistics from the country's crisis shelters, where many of the most serious cases end up, suggest

that 80 to 90 percent of Kyrgyzstan's victims of domestic violence are women.
