com Educator School District: Doudna Elementary School Current Educational Assignment: Student Number of Years in Current Assignment: 0 Years of Education Experience: 0 Step I: Self-Reflection Five years ago I started my educational journey at UW-Richland where I decided that I wanted to pursue teaching as a career. When I was attending UW-Richland I took Introduction to Education and this was the first time I really fell in love with teaching. I was placed in a first grade class and completed over sixty hours of pre-student teaching. Watching the students grow from the beginning of my placement to the end was the most rewarding feeling and I knew that I had chosen the right career path for myself. I graduated from UW-Richland with my Associate of Arts & Science degree in 2010. After graduating from UW-Richland I continued my educational journey at UW-Platteville where I determined my major as Elementary Education and my minor as Early Childhood and Inclusion/Special Education. I am expected to graduate from UW-Platteville next fall. During my time at UW-Platteville I have had many great educational experiences that have helped me grow as a person and an educator. I have had the opportunity to volunteer at Southwest Tech Adult Basic Education in Richland Center and helped returning adults work towards achieving their GED. I have volunteered in a sixth grade special education classroom at Richland Middle School in Richland Center. Last year I completed my pre-student teaching which is some of my fondest and most rewarding memories. I was placed in a 1st grade and Kindergarten classroom at Doudna Elementary School in Richland Center. As a child I attended this school and having the opportunity to go back and pre student teach there was a wonderful experience. It allowed me to see school in two perspectives; as the student and as the teacher. Having this opportunity helped me better understand my students. My cooperating teachers had been teaching for many years and had a vast amount of knowledge to share with me. I learned a great deal about good classroom management, being a good role model for your students inside and outside of the classroom, and preparing and teaching an effective and fun lesson. All of my experiences have shaped who I am today and have made me a better and stronger person. I am a very reliable, diligent, and caring person. I have learned to balance working anywhere from one to two jobs, being a successful full time student, and still finding time for my wonderful family and friends. Some of my strengths are my people skills, organization, and listening skills. Although I see these as my strengths I still work to improve those skills because I always believe there is room for growth. Some other areas I would like to grow in are learning more about disabilities and how to make helpful accommodations for students with disabilities. I want every student in my classroom to succeed and therefore I need to know how to meet the needs of every student. There is always so much to learn and I have committed myself to be a lifelong learner and to share my knowledge with the youth!
