Unit Title: Students analyze the causes and consequences of World War
II.
Content Area: History
The recommended history-social science standards build on the work of exemplary documents from both within and outside California, most notably the
History-Social Science Framework for California Public Schools, a document strengthened by the consensus that elicited it and nationally recognized for its
emphasis on historical events presented within a chronological and geographic context. 10.8 Students analyze the causes and consequences of
World War II.
Big Ideas:
The big Ideas that I want students to learn from this lesson about World War II are the following :
1. Identify and locate the Allied and Axis powers on a map and discuss the major turning points of the war, the principal theaters of conflict, key strategic

decisions, and the resulting war conferences and political resolutions, with emphasis on the importance of geographic factors.
Analyze the Nazi policy of pursuing racial purity, especially against the European Jews; its transformation into the Final Solution; and the Holocaust that
resulted in the murder of six million Jewish civilians.
Identify at least 5 concentration camps built by the Nazis and describe why these camps were important to World War II.
Students will be completing projects, presentations, quizzes, With these activities being completed; Students will demonstrate their knowledge and
understanding as to what World War II was about and why it occurred. Students will be able to identity, compare examine, show, and evaluate the key figures
and factors as to why World War II occurred and also have a complete understanding of World war II.

Lesson Activities: Teacher will give a lecture about the important people
involved in the Holocaust. Students will learn about the Final Solution and
read the chapter from an assigned reading that describes the theory behind
the attempt to exterminate the European Jews by Adolf Hitler.
