life cycle booklet.

After reading The Tiny Seed, the teacher will ask
students to recall the journey the seed took to become
a flower.
Individually, the students will be able to identify the
order of the life cycle of a flower 1/1 times.
As a group, the students will be able to act out the life
cycle of a flower 1/1 times, as modeled by the teacher.

Students will be asked what season we are in and what
happens during spring. (See Activating Prior Knowledge
Section.)
Modeling of the Concept
1. Read The Tiny Seed to students.
While reading, ask: Do you think the tiny seed will
be able to keep up with the others?, Why do you
think the seed couldnt grow?, Do you think it is
too late for the tiny seed to grow?, What do you
think will happen to the flower now that it is fall?
2. Review story with students.
What happened to the tiny seed in the story?
3. Explain that the plant started out as a seed and ended
up as a flower at the end of the book. Explain that this
is the life cycle of a flower.
A life cycle is how something grows and
changes.
4. Explain parts of the life cycle of a flower to students.
Put up picture steps for flower life cycle.
Plant seed.
Grows roots.
Seed sprouts.
Flower blooms.
New seeds blow away.
Guiding the Practice
5. Now, we are going to act out the life cycle of a
flower. Im going to show you first, and then we will do it
together.
Crouch down like a seed
Stomp feet like roots digging into the soil
Jump up tall like the seed sprouting
Raise hands above head for blooming flower
Hands wave in the air like seeds blowing away in
the wind
6. Students will sit back down on their tape.
7. Next, we are going to put the pieces of the flower life
cycle in order in a book.

The teacher will give you a bag of pages with the
steps of the life cycle of a flower. You will put the
pages in order and show it to the teacher. The
teacher will tell you if your book is right and put it
together for you. Then, you can color the pages if
you have time.
Transition: When moving to the tables, students will
reach to the sky like flowers. Students will be called to
the tables based on the color their name is written in on
their name tag.
Providing the Independent Practice
8. Students will put pages of flower life cycle book in
order and the teacher will staple it when they have put it
in the correct order.
If students have trouble with this step, the teacher
may ask students to think about the journey the
seed made in the book. The teacher may also
reference what the children did when acting the
life cycle out together.
9. Students will color the book as time permits.
10. If time, students will play with table toys on the
carpet.
Transition: When moving back to the circle, students will
fly like a seed blowing in the wind.
Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
Students may be shown two pictures at a time as versus
all five pictures. The teacher will ask the student which
came first out of the pictures shown.
