ACTIVITY SUMMARY
Lesson will use interpersonal, intrapersonal, visual, and verbal intelligences. Lesson
will include a power-point presentation, verbal instruction, classroom interaction,
classroom discussion, and group discussion.
1.
40-45 minutes
Classroom with computer and smart-board, PowerPoint presentation, lesson
handout, writing utensils, prizes
Pre-Test, Who knows what they want to do after high school discussion, present postsecondary options, group discussion on benefits of each post-secondary option,
a. Counselors will explain to students that we will be discussing postsecondary options during this lesson. Counselors will pass out the pretest for students to complete.
2. Who knows what they want to do after high school discussion (5 minutes)
a. Counselors will ask the students who already knows what they want to
do after high school. Counselors will take responses from 2-3
students.
3. Post-Secondary Options PowerPoint and Group Work (25 minutes)
a. Counselors will present each post-secondary option
i. One the Job Training
ii. Apprenticeships
iii. Two-Year Colleges
iv. Four-Year Colleges
v. Military
b. After each post-secondary option is presented, the counselors will
allow 2-4 minutes for students to work in groups discussing the
benefits of each option. Students may also fill in the What is this?
and Preparation portions of the lesson worksheet. One group of
students will be called on to share the benefits they discussed for each
post-secondary option
4. Questions and Prizes (5 minutes)
a. Counselors will ask 3-5 questions concerning the material covered in
the lesson. Students who answer the questions correctly will receive a
prize.
i. Possible Questions: Name 3 of the 5 post-secondary options,
name two branches of the military, how old must you be to
seek an apprenticeship, name two Indiana two-year colleges,
what type of degree do you obtain from a four-year college
5. Post-Test (5 minutes)
a. Counselors will pass out post-test for students to complete and answer
