Location- The Sahara desert

Northern part of Africa

Dates- December to February

The temperatures are not at its extreme

The luxury item for the tribe to earn would be a book on the types of plants
and animals in the desert and all the information they need to know about
them.

WATER SOURCES

Gather water from the Nile river if youre


close enough
Dig a hole deep enough that water will start
to gather in the hole
Cut off the top of a barrel cactus and mash or
squeeze the pulp
Early morning dew
When drinking water take long drinks, dont
sip.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Use your sunglasses to aim sunlight at


the wood the team members have
gathered to create a fire for cooking
and the cool night temperatures

NATIVE PLANTS THAT CAN BE EATEN

Acacia- trees with seed pods


Agave-the flowers, the leaves, the stalks, and the sap
Cactus- water inside
Date palm- fruits
Common Fig- fig fruits
Doum Palm- red-orange oval fruit
Olive tree- fruits

NATIVE ANIMALS THAT CAN BE


EATEN

Edible insects:

ants, scorpions, grasshoppers, centipedes


and tarantulas

Goats
Ostriches
Sand snakes
Lizards
Badgers
Camels

ORGANISMS THAT CAN BE FOOD

Lichen- found where there is moisture

SHELTER

Use the white poncho you brought with you


Build a mound of sand or use the side of a sand
dune for one side of the shelter.
Anchor one end of the material on top of the mound
using sand or other weights.
Extend and anchor the other end of the material so
it provides the best possible shade.

DANGEROUS ORGANISMS

Scorpions
Centipedes and Millipedes- some have a poisonous bite
and may reach 25 cm
Puff adder- venom destroys blood cells
Boomslang- dangerous venom
Gaboon viper- neurotoxic venom
Saw-scaled viper- deathly
Cobra causes respiratory paralysis and tissue damage
Bee
To defend yourself from these organisms you can use the
machete you brought . If its possible you should try not
to draw any attention to yourself. Dont leave food or any
of your belongings out where it could be easily accessed
by the wild life.

MEDICAL ORGANISMS

Thyme- treats indigestion, respiratory


infections, and spasms
Aloe plants- treats burns

MEDICAL EMERGENCY PLAN

Use aloe plants to treat sunburns


If something is bleeding a lot wrap a
piece of cloth around it and duct tape
it to stop the bleeding
Use items from your first aid kit

DIVISION OF LABOR

Team member 1 has to get food for the


team and cook
Team member 2 has to make the
shelter for the team and maintain it
Team member 3 has to take care of the
latrine
Team member 4 has to create energy
sources

PROBLEM SOLVING

Problem: Heat Exhaustion


Solution: Carry a lot of fluids with you,
hike in the morning, take long drinks of
water, find shade and rest if possible

AVOID DESTROYING THE

Dont leave any trash


Keep everything you brought with you
together
Dont leave fires unattended and put
them out when you go to bed
Dont have your latrine near a water
source that people drink out of
