Marvel
The other day, we got a peek at Tony Starks
new Iron Man armor for Captain America: Civil
War, continuing his sleek, super-powered evolution in the MCU. But Stark isnt the only one
getting a sweet suit upgrade Steve Rogers
Cap suit has evolved a bit too over the years,
and hell also be receiving a slight change in
apparel come Civil War. New concept art gives
us a preview of this new suit, and while its not
too different, there are some cool changes.
The concept art popped up on Umberto Gonzalezs Instagram, and at first glance, it doesnt

look all that different:

At this point, prequels are pretty well played
out. Theyre frustrating to begin with, since by
their very nature they tell backstories instead
of stories, and after being inundated with
Hollywood prequels for several years in the
late 2000s and early 10s, whatever appetite
audiences had for them is long gone. So maybe the future is in postquels; movies set long
after the adventures of heroes we know. If so,
Mr. Holmes could be the start of a whole new
trend.
Would you say such a trend would be elementary? Of course not, that would be a terrible
Sherlock Holmes joke.
Ian McKellen stars as the worlds greatest detective at the end of his life. This Holmes is not the
man we know from Arthur Conan Doyle stories
and Benedict Cumberbatch TV shows. That
Holmes, McKellen claims, is a fabrication and
embellishment of Dr. Watson. He never wore a
deerstalker cap and he prefers cigars to pipes. But
he is a detective, and even in his later years hes
still up for a good mystery, one that begins to unravel before him in the film, which is directed by
Bill Condon of the final Twilight films, Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and the superb Hollywood biopic
Gods and Monsters, which also starred McKellen
and earned him an Academy Award nomination
for Best Actor.
Hopefully this collaboration between McKellen
and Condon is just as fruitful as the last one;
certainly it looks very promising (and, in a way,
tonally and thematically similar to Gods and
Monsters). Mr. Holmes opens in theaters on July
17, where it might be a refreshing change of pace
from the typical summer blockbuster fare.

I know San Andreas is a dark, serious disaster movie about a massive earthquake that
decimates most of the West Coast, but cmon;
shouldnt they have called it That Faults
ARocking? It stars The Rock! Its the San
Andreas fault! Its rocking! Because the earthquake and hes Dwayne The Rock Johnsyou
know what nevermind, lets just move on.
Though Ive already voiced my distaste for
trailers with sad cover versions of famous
songs, the latest clip for San Andreas is mighty
effective. It sure looks like Warner Bros. spared
no expense when it came to destroying California. Theyve got building collapses, tidal waves,
and Dwayne Johnson rappelling down assorted
cliffs. Its like the old Earthquake movie times a
billion, though the cast of Paul Giamatti, Carla
Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Archie Panjabi,
Ioan Gruffudd, and Kylie Minogue doesnt
pack quite the same star power as its predecessor, which had Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner,
Richard Roundtree, Lorne Greene, Genevive
Bujold, George Kennedy, and Walter Matthau
as a crotchety drunk.
The film does seem to follow the basic notion
of Earthquake, and countless previous disaster
movies, where its no big whoop if hundreds
of thousands or even millions of people die, as
long as the main character and his two or three
family members survive. I mean, sure, its a
bummer if the coast is toast and Los Angeles
is laid to waste. But losing Dwayne Johnson?
That would be a real loss. That Faults ARocking San Andreas opens in theaters on May 29.

Paramount
Well, this isnt entirely surprising. Last year,
Paramount announced a formal release date for
Beverly Hills Cop 4, the first new installment in
the franchise since 1994's Beverly Hills Cop 3.
But then Eddie Murphy got to talking about it,
and talking about it some more most notably
with Rolling Stone back in January, when he
said he wasnt doing the sequelnot without a
good script, anyway. And Paramount apparently
agrees, as theyve taken Beverly Hills Cop 4 off
their release schedule.
The Wrap reports that the sequel is, for the time
being, off the calendar at Paramount. It would
appear that Paramount and Murphy have not
been able to find a good script and theres
a chance they may never find one that Murphy
deems satisfactory.
