SI Mukund Pawar penalises cops at Kandivali police quarters for playing loud music after 10 pm.

A police team, led by a senior inspector, busted a late-night party organised by the cops who resided
at the Kandivali police quarters, on Wednesday. The team, led by senior inspector Mukund Pawar,
seized the mics and the musical instruments, and also fined the party organisers Rs 5,000.
A police source said that several policemen and their families had organised a pooja, followed by a
party, for which a disc jockey was hired. "A few residents protested when the music was not turned
off after 10 pm, but the organisers didn't pay heed. The residents dialled the control room, but even
that didn't deter the cops," the source said.
Around 11 pm, a team from Kandivali Police Station reached the colony, and managed to stop the
music. However, as soon as the cops left, the music started again. "This time around, the residents
called up the Kandivali Police Station and senior inspector Pawar decided to take up the matter
himself. He reached the society with around six cops, and ensured the party was over," the source
said.
On Pawar's instructions, the cops seized the musical instruments and also penalised the organisers.
A diary entry of the incident was also made.
Pawar confirmed that he penalised his colleagues, saying the police "were duty bound to act on
citizens' complaints". He said, "We got a few calls complaining that loud music was being played at
the police society compound, and the organisers had put up several loudspeakers. We had to act as
the residents were being disturbed. The organisers were fined."
While Pawar insisted that he was "merely discharging his duties", his colleagues at the police
quarters remained nonplussed. "It was a society event, not some private party," one of the organisers
said. "The senior inspector shouldn't have played the spoilsport. There was a pooja, followed by a
function where we played music for some time, and that too not very loud," another policeman said.
