1. Context
The home things is a story thought for children. This tale is about a family who
lives in their home. When they go out from their home, furniture starts to talk to
each other, for example, television starts to talk to the selves. Furniture is not
happy about their work and they complain about it. All of them decide to change
their work and when family comes back to home all is in a mess. Family doesnt
understand anything and they call the police.
Finally, mum discovers whats going on with her furniture and she speak with them
and convince them.
Our group has chosen the first course of primary to work it and to teach new
concepts, such as family words and furniture home words.
2. Pre-telling
2.1. Members of the family
Firstly, teacher show children some flashcards from the family, in order to introduce
better the vocabulary of family. Teacher show every flashcard and pronounce them
in loud.
Teacher speaks to the class about a famous family from de TV, for example
Simpsons family or the Flintstones. Some teachers make up like these families
(one of them) and they make a representation.
With this activity teacher try that children know vocabulary about family and
furniture and their pronunciation.
2.2. Name of the furniture
Teacher show children some flashcards from the furniture. To introduce better the
vocabulary of furniture, they will bring to class real photos which appear in the
book, they can get the photos of the furniture from some magazine, book,
newspaper, etc. This is an opportunity of knowing objects related with the real
nature. It is perfect for stimulate them to being curious people. So when they will
go to some house they will know the name of a lot of elements.
2.3. Recognize your family

everyone is. Children have to look for some photos in their home from their family.
Next day they have to bring the photos to the class and show them to their
classmate and explain who everyone is. They can say the full name and what is the
relationship with him.
3. Telling
This part will consist in a motor tale extracted from de book The things home. It
consists in a family who live all together in their home. One day, when they were
going out of the house, they closed the door and television started to talk to the
selves.
Television, bookshelf, blanket, video tapes, fridge, etc, started to complain because
nobody was happy with the role in the house and they decided to change.
When the family arrived home they found all in a mess and they started to try to
find out what have happened in their home. Finally mum finds out the answer.
In the telling part teacher has to read the tale. Teacher has to speak about the
story to the children. They have a little flashcards with them while she or he is
telling the story to them. When the teacher say the name of some furniture the
children who has the flashcard of this furniture has to raise it. The same for the
family members name.
The story is:
Once upon a time there was a girl who lived with her parents and her pet. One
day, when they were going out of the house, they closed the door and the
television started to talk to the shelves.
What a bore! They have me switched on all the day- said the television.
Dont complain-said the bookshelf. - They have me full of books and they never
take weight away from me.
And what about me?- said the sofa. I have to support their weight and arms.
I, a little blanket, have the dog all the day on me,
And we- said the video tapes- We have always to be the one over the other.
I-said the television shelf- have to support miss television that always heats up
and makes a lot of noise.
The fridge said. I have to be all the day opening and closing the door and cold
escapes from me:
Anyway, nobody was happy with their role in the house. So they decided to change.
The sofa wanted to be the fridge and put all the food on it, the three book shelves
wanted be a sofa each one so they lied on the floor.
The television shelf wanted to be the dogs bed, the television wanted to be the
bookshelf and all the books put on it, the videotapes got into the fridge and the
dogs blanket, who wanted to be a painting, put itself on the wall.
When the family arrived home, they found all in a mess and they started to scream.
Which scandal is this? Who has made it?
4. Post- telling
To check that children have learnt every new concept, the teacher will do some
different activities.
One of them is that the teacher gives children the flashcards of furniture and the
family words. When she pronounces the name of furniture or family children have
to show the flashcard.
Another activity is that teacher and children go to the gym of the school and they
play a game. Firstly, teacher prepares the activity and put some photos of furniture
on the gyms wall or even real furniture if this is possible around the gym. When
children arrive to the gym, they must go to the middle of the gym and make a
circle around the teacher. Teacher pronounces the word of the furniture and they
have to find the furniture flashcards or to teach the furniture.
Children could prepare a tree family too. Teacher teaches them how they can do it
with one example (Simpsons family or Flintstones). Later that show an example
they have to prepare one family tree. Teacher has two possibility, one is their true
family tree with photos (they bring this photos from their home) and another
possibility is that the teacher brings some newspaper and magazines to the class
and the children have to look for photos the people, a man, a women, children, etc
and prepare a family tree with the photos that they have cut from this magazines.
If we want to check of children have known the furniture name teacher will give
them and photography with some furniture. They have to say the name of every
one in loud to their classmate. Later they have to look for the same furniture in
their home and make a photography (parents help them in this activity).
