Welcome to our first Illustration Art sale of 2012, which has shaped up to be an absolutely great auction both in terms of the quality of art represented and total number of lots a staggering 873! Just about every illustrator one could hope to name is represented this time out, from all genres and time periods were very pleased to be offering such a deep selection from this art form we are all so passionate about. The backbone of our auctions over the last few years has been the excellent paintings from the famed Estate of Charles Martignette and weve been holding on to some great examples, which will be immediately apparent in the pages to follow. We always strive to offer a stellar selection of pin-up art in our Beverly Hills sales, and this may be our most impressive group ever by the undisputed leader in the field, Gil Elvgren. Elvgren is joined by perennial giants Alberto Vargas, Earl Moran, George Petty, Enoch Bolles, Fritz Willis, and Al Buell as well as by absolutely choice examples by Olivia, the greatest contemporary pin-up practitioner. Among the incredibly deep pulp and paperback highlights this time is a very desirable group from the Estate of John McLaughlin. This name is immediately recognizable for A+ quality in these realms as well as classic 20th century European illustrated book art. His gorgeous Edmund Dulac watercolor is one of the true highlights of this sale. However, nothing epitomizes the quality of the McLaughlin Estate more than the two Margaret Brundage Weird Tales covers, which are as rare, iconic, and sought after as pulp art comes. Were also offering a newly discovered Spicy cover by the great H.J. Ward, which features all the classic elements collectors desire, as well as rare gems by Hannes Bok, Virgil Finlay, Edd Cartier, and Earle Bergey, among numerous others. These treasures are joined by a wonderful selection from the Golden Age of American Illustration, including our beautiful cover lot, an impeccable advertising painting by the master, J.C. Leyendecker. The auction also includes an absolutely classic Saturday Evening Post cover study by the greatest illustrator of them all, Norman Rockwell. Excellent examples also abound by the likes of Dean Cornwell, Haddon Sundblom, F.X. Leyendecker, Harvey Dunn, Tom Lovell, and James Montgomery Flagg, as well as excellent Post cover paintings by Amos Sewell, Paul Stahr, Neysa McMein, and the publications 1970s heir to Rockwell, Robert Charles Howe. Were also particularly proud of the selection by famed New Yorker cartoonist and all-around popular culture icon Charles Addams, which features stand-out Addams Family cartoons, including one of the most popular and reproduced images he ever created that has never been offered on the market. Beautifully rendered childrens book art by the incomparable and perennially popular great Garth Williams rounds out our offerings. In an Illustration auction this large, it goes without saying that these are merely a few of the highlights, so I hope you enjoy perusing the catalog as much as weve enjoyed putting it together for you. Please be sure to take your time looking through the artwork offered in Session Two I can assure you that a great many treasures are contained within, offered during our second day only because we ran out of room in Session One! Best of luck bidding, we look forward to seeing many of you in sunny Beverly Hills.

MyCollection
COLLECTION INVENTORY
Heritages newMyCollectionsoftware is a private record of collectibles that you own, buy, or resell, and its great for insurance or estate planning.
But the most exciting thing about the new MyCollection software is the ability to receive offers on items you purchased from Heritage at auction, including the ability to set your own Buy Now price.
Heritage members now have the opportunity to make an anonymous offer to the buyer of items previously purchased at auction from Heritage, directly through our Auction Results Archives. Heritage manages the transaction, maintaining privacy for both parties. Acceptance of an offer represents agreement with the terms and conditions of sale, including Heritages commission. This service is free to the buyer (no buyers premium), includes a 7 day return policy, protects the identity of both parties, and allows offers and counter-offers. If you receive an offer, you will have 72 hours to decline, counter-offer or accept the offer. You are under no obligation until you accept an offer or a buyer accepts your counter offer. You will receive payment for items sold within 30 days of Heritages receipt of your item.
