Setiap hari pula Cermin Ajaib akan menjawab, Ratuku adalah yang paling cantik di negeri ini.

Suatu hari, saat pertengahan musim dingin, saat salju jatuh seperti bulu dari langit, Ratu duduk di dekat jendela yang dipigura oleh kerangka kayu berwarna hitam. Sambil menjahit, dia menatap salju hingga tak sengaja jarinya tertusuk jarum jahit. Tiga tetes darah jatuh dari jari Ratu yang terluka. Darah tersebut jatuh di atas salju, merah di atas putih, tampak begitu cantik. Melihatnya, Ratu kemudian berpikir, Andai saja aku punya anak dengan kulit seputih salju, bibir semerah darah, dan rambut sehitam bingkai jendela ini. Ratu merasa kecantikannya tersaingi oleh Putri Salju. Ratu berpikir untuk menyingkirkan Putri Salju sehingga dia akan kembali menjadi wanita tercantik di negeri ini.

Ratu pun memanggil pemburu dan menyuruhnya membawa Putri Salju ke hutan. Pemburu itu diperintahkan untuk menikam Putri Salju sampai mati, dan membawa paru-paru dan hati Putri Salju kembali ke Ratu. Ratu ingin memasak paru- paru dan hati Putri Salju dengan garam dan memakannya, untuk melampiaskan kebenciannya kepada Putri Salju.

Pemburu pun mengajak Putri Salju ke hutan. Ketika pemburu mengambil pisau berburu untuk menusuk Putri Salju, Putri Salju mulai menangis, dan memohon sungguh-sungguh agar pemburu itu tidak membunuhnya. Putri Salju berjanji untuk melarikan diri ke hutan dan tidak pernah kembali. Pemburu

merasa kasihan padanya dan ia berpikir untuk melepaskan Putri Salju. Jika Putri Salju berlari ke dalam hutan, maka Putri Salju akan dimakan oleh binatang buas. Maka pemburu pun melepaskan Putri Salju dan menyuruhnya berlari ke dalam hutan.

Untuk memenuhi permintaan Ratu agar membawa paru- paru dan hati Putri Salju, maka pemburu itu membunuh seekor babi hutan. Paru- paru dan hati babi hutan tersebut diambil oleh pemburu dan dibawanya kembali ke Ratu, sebagai bukti bahwa pemburu tersebut telah membunuh Putri Salju. Ratu pun memasaknya dengan garam dan memakannya, mengira bahwa ia telah memakan paru- paru dan hati Putri Salju.

Putri Salju sekarang sendirian di hutan besar. Dia sangat takut dan mulai berlari. Dia berlari di atas batubatu tajam dan ranting- ranting pohon sepanjang hari. Akhirnya, saat matahari hampir terbenam, ia datang ke sebuah rumah kecil. Rumah ini milik tujuh kurcaci. Mereka sedang bekerja di tambang dan saat itu sedang tidak berada di rumah. Putri Salju pun masuk ke dalam dan menemukan segala sesuatunya lebih kecil, tetapi tersusun rapi dan teratur. Ada meja kecil dengan tujuh piring kecil, tujuh sendok kecil, tujuh pisau kecil dan garpu, tujuh cangkir kecil, dan di dinding ada tujuh tempat tidur kecil.

Selain itu, mereka juga memperingatkan Putri Salju untuk tidak membiarkan siapa pun masuk ke dalam rumah mereka.

Dia pun segera mencari Putri Salju dan akan membunuhnya sendiri, karena Ratu tidak akan tenang sampai Cermin Ajaib mengatakan bahwa Ratu adalah wanita tercantik di seluruh negeri, bukan Putri Salju.

Ratu pun berpikir keras untuk dapat membunuh Putri Salju. Dia menyamar sebagai wanita tua penjual pakaian dan merias wajahnya sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak ada seorang pun yang mengenalinya. Ratu pun pergi ke rumah kurcaci dan mengetuk pintunya, Buka. Bukalah. Aku wanita tua penjual pakaian. Putri Salju tidak mengizinkan wanita tua itu masuk, sesuai dengan pesan para kurcaci. Jangan biarkan orang lain masuk lagi, kata ketujuh kurcaci.

Sementara itu di istana, Ratu berpikir bahwa dia kembali menjadi wanita tercantik di seluruh negeri. Ratu pun kembali bertanya kepada Cermin Ajaib, Wahai Cermin Ajaib di dinding, siapakah wanita

tercantik di negeri ini?. Cermin Ajaib pun menjawab, Ratuku adalah yang paling cantik di negeri ini, tetapi Putri Salju seribu kali lebih cantik daripada Ratuku. Ratu kembali terkejut. Dia pun menyusun rencana baru untuk membunuh Putri Salju. Ratu pun membuat sisir beracun.

Ratu kembali menyamar menjadi penjual sisir dan mengetuk pintu rumah tujuh kurcaci. Putri Salju tidak memperbolehkannya masuk. Lalu Ratu mengeluarkan sisir dan mengatakan bahwa dia penjual sisir. Ratu masuk ke kamar rahasia nya dan membuat apel beracun. Esoknya dia menyamar sebagai wanita tua penjual apel. Wanita tua itu menawarkan apel kepada Putri Salju. Putri Salju menolaknya. Malam itu para kurcaci pulang dari tambang. Putri Salju tergeletak di lantai, dan dia sudah mati. Mereka tidak bisa menghidupkan kembali. Mereka membaringkannya di atas usungan dan ketujuh kurcaci tersebut duduk di sampingnya, menangis selama tiga hari. Mereka akan menguburkan dia, tapi mereka melihat bahwa dia tetap segar.
