r Joseph VG is the founder of Garden City Group ofInstitutions, which has carved a niche for itself by providing quality education in India. Today students from 69 countries and from all the States and Union Territories of India have made Garden City College their home for knowledge. The reason for this being the efficient academic practices implemented by this visionary genius, at a young age. The principles of Garden City College laid down by him, with the emphasis on life, have made it one of the most sought-after institutions for higher learning. In the last two and a half decades Dr Joseph VG has crossed several milestones, in the arena of education and has stood witness to the immense growth of Garden City Group of Institutions, becoming its major inspiration. A thought to establish an institution that would serve mankind for hundreds of years crossed his mind during 1985 which sowed the seed for the beginning of Garden City Education Trust. The trust was established in 1992 with the intention of establishing institutions that were on global standards.
His Excellency Dr Joseph VG Honorary Consul of the Republic of Maldives in Bangalore & Chairman, Garden City Group of Institutions

Garden City College was the first institution that had shaped up from his vision to serve the needy with quality education. His intention was to eliminate unemployment to the maximum extent and thus introduce job-oriented courses. His emphasis was always on quality education and hence in 1995, Garden City College witnessed the introduction of highly acclaimed courses in Science and Management Studies with new combinations that are apt for the industry and a new syllabi has seen light after a long gap.

An experience with the living legend of sufi music-Ustad Puran Shahkoti. Civic senseFails to hit the Spotlight

A smile is the light in the window of your face that tells people youre at home. ~ Author Unknown

Bangalore is a beautiful contemporary city that marries glitz with tradition. Though the population of the city prides itself in being educated and literate, what people here sorely lack is civic sense. These days, it is almost impractical to walk on the side roads not having to dodge potholes and dog faeces. I mean, the major cause of traffic that piles up in the city is because of cows and buffalos making themselves at home on the middle of the road while their owners are not at all bothered about the raging situation. There is not a single area in the city which can be even closely associated with the word, Hygienic the elevators for example, it is absolutely impossible to travel in one without having to notice the extremely filthy red paan stains on the sides. And whats worse, the noxious fumes coming out of the unauthorised garbage dumps all around the city. It is sad to know that a major chunk of literate people contribute to disposing of garbage in public areas in the city. Why is it that we as Indians have such poor civic sense? Why is it that we do not consider public property as belonging to all of us, rather than to none of us? We do not have the patience to stop at the bins, disembark from our vehicles and put the garbage inside the metal bins through the openings provided. We try our luck with our aims and most of the time the garbage bags hit the bin and end up beside it. Civic sense, or rather the lack of it, is a matter of grave concern as most of us do not care much for it. This attitude is prevalent across all sections of society. A man who lacks civic sense is not a good citizenGovernor H R Bhardwaj. The shabby image of our city is purely due to the lack of basic civic sense. While we

meticulously clean our houses every day, we have no problem in discarding the garbage in a nearby sewer or on the street. How can such a person be called a good citizen? Its clearly understandable that where poverty exists and illiteracy multiplies, the sense of cleanliness fails to hit the spotlight. But for the literate population also civic sense has gone for a toss? Every morning I observe women from well-to-do homes happily dumping cans of garbage into the drainage nearby Im beginning to feel that they havent been introduced to the concept of trash bins as yet. And as the waste settles in, its obnoxious odour, penetrates through the numb olfactory nerves, and sours the eyes with its grotesque naked appearance, its just unbearable. It is a common sight to see people in a high position at work, who travel in luxury vehicles, stick their head out of the window just to spit out. I can assure to you that the word Dignity doesnt exist in their dictionary. Its embarrassing to even look at something so notorious. Im sure that it is high time we understood that we dont own public parks, monuments or roads to keep littering them and making a mess. It is government property and it is our job as responsible citizens to help preserve them for the generations to come. Keeping our homes neat and tidy is very important, but more than that, we need to keep our city clean. After all, our domestic lives remain private, the world is not interested in knowing how hygienic we are or how well maintained our homes are. It is the city that is seen by people and it is this sphere that represents who we are in a larger perspective, and Im sure that cow dung on the road doesnt paint a pretty picture at all. We are all better than we appear, all we need to do is pull up our socks and turn on our civic sense for both, the betterment of our lifestyle as well as our city. Category: All Blogs
