The Army Writing Program sets this com-
mon standard for effective writing: effective
writing is writing that can be understood in
a single rapid reading and is generally free
of errors in grammar, mechanics, and usage.
Maintenance of this common standard dic-
tates broad diagnostic testing, a writing core
in the curricula of Army schools, and sensi-
ble options for remedial work,
4. Goals
The goals of the Army Writing Program arc
as follows:
a. Elimination of poor writing within ihe
