Brittany Robertson 1646 N Oakley Ave, Apt 1 Chicago, IL, 60647 [email protected] January 17, 2013 AUSL Principal 3400 N. Austin Ave. Chicago, IL 60634 Dear Principal: There is a quote on the wall at my training academy, which I see when I walk up the stairs every morning. It says, education is not received, its achieved. I truly believe this. I think that all students can learn and become successful contributing members of society, but in order to do that, they have to believe in themselves. If they believe they can do it and they strive for excellence, then they will achieve their education. As an urban school teacher, I want to push my students and help them reach their full potential. I know that in order to do that, I have to show them that hard work is what will make them successful. I believe that school should be a place where the academic rigor is always being pushed. I want to surround myself with colleagues who feel the same way. Please consider my letter of application for an elementary teaching position at an AUSL School. With my exceptional undergraduate and graduate record and yearlong residency at Curtis School of Excellence, I am particularly interested in utilizing my skills, residency experience, and knowledge with second grade students. My year-long teaching residency has prepared me to be an effective urban teacher. Through the Academy for Urban School Leadership, I both observed and implemented best teaching and management practices. During my one year residency I: Differentiated instruction through guided reading groups, Leveled Literacy Intervention groups, and independent word work groups. Developed whole group and individual incentives to engage my students. Created individual behavioral management plans for two of my students. Completed quarterly reading assessments, such as Dolch Word recognition tests, and STEP assessments. Successfully implemented Signature Strategies and the Behavior Management Cycle. Used daily data to inform planning and instruction by implementing daily exit tickets. Participated in grade level meetings on a weekly basis and RTI meetings on a monthly basis. Planned a Winter Festival in our classroom for parents to attend with their students.

I believe my enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, and unwavering desire to master the craft of teaching make me a perfect fit for an AUSL School. Most of all, I am eager to prove myself through hard work and dedication. I welcome the opportunity to discuss your schools goals and how I can help you achieve them. I look forward to speaking with you to discuss this in greater detail. Sincerely,
