Veronica Alvarez-Galloso Ms. Zimmerman A.P. Eng Lang January 17, 2013 An Essay on Education Motivation is the key when it comes to teaching. Every chance teachers get they try to help their students strive to do better. Lately, professors and teachers have been lacking that principle aspect in most schools. There could be a myriad of reasons as to why teachers have been so unenthusiastic. A major factor could be the curriculum. Sometimes it may cause a slight discomfort, since they are being taught what to teach ahead of time. Another factor could include budget and pay cuts. Teachers feel they dont deserve to get paid as low as they do. Sometimes, they cant leave their work due to financial problems. One of the most important problems that are faced with the modern teacher is choosing a career. Some teachers enter this profession simply because it is easy, or a better source of income than not doing anything. Although the concept of motivating a child is the most important thing a teacher can do, some are to demotivated and choose not to, because of their own personal problems, feelings or disagreements. In every school, there is an established curriculum. This is considered the foundation of a learning institute. As a result, teachers will sink into a never-ending treadmill, and grow to resent it. In Education, Emerson criticizes the limitations schools are placing and points to a more liberating and spiritual experience in learning. From this part of the essay, you can gather that a stable curriculum was not always supported in schools. Some people saw this as a restriction to a childs limitless potential in education. Just like before, some teachers may find the curriculum to be very repetitive. Other teachers may think that a curriculum wont let their students reach their peak. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Cannot Read, Prose makes valid points when she writes that children are not being challenged enough. Because of this teachers become unenthusiastic, and often refuse to teach.

After high school comes the scary world of college. Sometimes, even when you reach college, you still dont know which career you are going to pick. What happens in most cases is that people pick the easiest profession which is teaching. This particular job provides plenty of vacation time, and enough money to live on. Making a decision on something as important as your career became more wrapped around the difficulty than the interest. Because of this, teachers are working in schools, and they dont even like it. As a result, teachers have lack of motivation, and transport it to their students. Very modern problems we face in almost every school system are budgets and pay cuts. From picking what is easier, you also pick what is cheaper. Teachers may face a substantial pay cut, which will inevitably frustrate them, as well as turning them into negative people. Quitting isnt always easy, since some may face financial problems in the future. In Stand and Deliver, the setting is a poor Hispanic neighborhood and school. This is the result of pay cuts and years of financial problems. This, of course, affects their attitude toward their job, and students. After years and years of suggestions and ideas given to them through works of literature, teachers still lack the proper enthusiasm to be able to motivate their kids. Teachers were made to inspire children and help them strive to better academically. Since the beginning of time, they have been here to guide us and help us. There has always been an unspoken bond or connection with a student, involving this profession. Teaching is a privilege and a blessing, which should have the happiness to match it. Whatever teachers may face, they should still have the ability to put on a brave face for their classroom, and help them in any way they can.
