ELECA Annual Meeting Excerpts November 2007

Pool: Membership was up this year, with 99 ELECA and 62 associate mem-
bers. Jan Morison and Terri Jennings spearheaded a major refurbishing pro-
ject and did a magnificent job! We received $2,009 in donations for the pool.
If you would like to donate to the pool, it is tax deductible. Our priorities for
this year include a fence, pool cover, and pool vacuum.
Social: We had an active season with lots of fun.
Grounds: The city has begun replacing the lighting where needed.
Lake Renewal: The plan called for city dredging with waterfront property
owners paying for driveways to docks and piers. Subsequently the city attor-
ney conducted a study which recommended the city NOT fund the project as
the lake and canal were deemed private property. ELECA owns the lake and
homeowner property lines on the canal extend to the center of the canal. The
ELECA board and Lake Renewal Committee are exploring our options and
maintaining a continuous dialogue with council members, urging them to
support city funding for dredging. We ask that our residents continue to help
maintain pressure on the city and city council to fund dredging. With elec-
Elizabeth Lake tions coming up, put the candidates on the spot concerning the dredging is-
sue. If you receive a survey concerning the dredging issue, please respond as
will be featured quickly as possible. If you are asked by the city for a release from liability
in the 2008 for city dredging, please consider agreeing to do so.
New business: We had a presentation on the 2008 Neighborhood USA Con-
Neighborhood ference, to be held in Hampton May 21-24, 2008. Elizabeth Lake will be
USA Conference featured on the home tour.

BUYERS…Did you know it’s a great time to shop for a home?

Be wary of media reports touting the doom and gloom of the housing market. The housing market in
the Hampton Roads Area is still alive and well.
Mortgage rates are still at record lows for buyers with reasonable credit scores. The scary stories told
in news reports relate to loans granted to buyers with questionable credit and risky loan products.
Don’t miss an opportunity to shop and buy in the most balanced market in the past couple of years.
Concerned about selling your current home to purchase a new home? Call me today to discuss a stra-
tegic plan to help get you moving.

Pool Corner
ELIZABETH LAKE It’s that time of year again… to begin thinking about joining the pool for the
ESTATES CIVIC season. We had a successful summer last year and are looking forward to
ASSOCIATION making this year the best ever. As we continue to improve our pool I hope you
will invite your friends and family to join as well. Membership is open to
everyone. We are making changes this year based on member feedback and
comments, to include expanded hours, alternating use of pools during low
attendance hours, and keeping the concession stand open during peak hours. We
ELECA are planning several introductory days at no cost to encourage people in the
PO Box 1726 community to try the pool. We’re implementing new picture ID cards, so be
Hampton, VA 23669 sure to provide a picture with your application. Douglas Aquatics has done a
great job and will continue to staff the pool. We have a great pool, but in order
to maintain it we must continue to increase our membership. Please remember
that the pool has a member and guest only policy. Guest privileges are limited to
individuals who do not live in the neighborhood. Elizabeth Lake residents are
We’re on the Web! not eligible to attend in guest status. The pool committee is looking forward to a
