9. SYNOPSIS: This course should be able to provide students with knowledge on cargo handling system which covers, cargo distribution, cargo handling, unitized cargo, liquefied gases, dangerous goods, latest development and trends on containers, bulk and liquid cargo transport. This subject will cover the application on the latest cargo handling and stowage techniques onboard ship, plan appropriate cargo separation and ventilation, utilize appropriate cargo handling gears, calculate cargo distribution based on stowage principles and calculate the correct safe working load.

PBL Assignments You are onboard KD MAHAWANGSA as a Cargo Officer. The ship is tasked to carry certain ammunitions required for those ships that are participating in the operation known as OPS TAYANG. KD MAHAWANGSA is scheduled to proceed from Lumut to Gugusan Semarang Peninjau (GSP). Prepare the cargo plan for the ammunitions and adhere the appropriate safety procedures during its transshipment.

MV Mawarku is tasked to carry logistics requirements for the humanitarian aids mission in one of the crises areas of the Middle East. The ship is scheduled to sail from the Lumut Naval Base upon the completion of loading of the required cargoes. You are tasked to prepare the necessary documentations and supervise the loading and unloading of cargoes.

As a cargo officer onboard KD SRI INDERA SAKTI, you are required to calculate the space requirements for carrying military hardware of 3 x 3-ton trucks, 200 x assault boats, 5 x T100 battle tanks for Joint Operation with Army and RMAF in Kuantan.

KD MAHAWANGSA is carrying army heavy armaments for EX PENYU TRIDENT. You are required to make inspections on the dangerous cargoes carried on board ship pertaining to IMDG code.
16. TEACHING METHODOLOGY: a. Students will be exposed to understanding and knowledge on ILS and fundamentals in spares/stores acquisitions. They are given as many examples in its application in current situations through lectures and discussions. b. Students shall prepare an essay or case study with regard to MLC of the certain essential equipment/system onboard ships through Problem-based Learning (PBL). c. Conduct the group discussions through problem based learning on selected topics of logistics current issues.
