Hating Love

As many people have figured out, love can be complicated. The mythological story,
Cupid and Psyche by the greeks showcases complicated love. The purpose of the myth is
love only comes with the necessary trust. In the beginning it describes Psyche in her
family as, Psyche, the youngest, was very kind. She was also very beautiful. She was so
beautiful, in fact, that the powerful goddess of love, Aphrodite, became jealous of Psyche
(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). Her other two sisters got married but she still
didnt. Her father wondered why so was so beautiful but never got married like her
sisters. Finally, he consulted Apollos oracle. Sadly, the king took Psyche to the edge of a
cliff and left her there. In despair, Psyche might have leaped to her death. Before she could,
she felt herself lifted into the air. Zephyrus, the gentle west wind, had taken pity on the girl,
and gently carried her to a faraway palace. It was the home of his good friend, Cupid the
lonely god of Love(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). The oracle gave bad
advice to the King by telling him Psyche should prepare for her death. The King had to take
her to the cliff so she would leap to her death. In the middle of the story, Psyche meets
Cupid, who ...did not wish to scare Psyche(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche).
Also, if she valued his love (which she did) it was best not to catch a glimpse of him. When
Cupid happily invited Psyches sisters ... her two sisters maliciously convinced Psyche that
she was being fooled, that her husband was a fearsome monster, and that she had to
escape (The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). Psyche did not know what to
do. She thought of trusting her sisters that Cupid is a monster, but in contrast, he was so
nice and funny. If she trusted him fully she knew that she would love him. One night she,
...crept into her hosts bedroom. Instead of the monster she expected to find, she saw
Cupid, a handsome young man, with two white wings. She was not frightened at all. A drop
of oil from the lamp she held fell on the sleeping god. He woke instantly. He saw his
Psyche, leaning over him with a dagger in her hand. With great sorrow, he spread his wings
and flew away(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). Now, Cupid did not trust
Psyche so how could he love her? He said ... if she valued his love, not to try to catch a
glimpse of him(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche) and she did try to catch a
glimpse of him and even try to kill him with the dagger she was holding. She did not know
what to do again so, Psyche prayed to Aphrodite for help. Aphrodite was still jealous but
gave Psyche tasks to prove her love for Cupid that no mortal could possibly
accomplish(The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). The tasks were, 1. Have a coin
ready for the toll to the underworld.
2. Bring three pieces of sweet bread to give to Cerberus, the three headed dog.
3. DO NOT EAT ANYTHING, not even a seed.
4. Once you find it, bring the box to Aphrodite without looking inside(The Charming Story
of Cupid and Psyche). Psyche set out on her quest and ... Psyche accomplished task
after task. Although she did not know it, Psyche was helped by invisible beings, sent by
Cupid, who loved her still, and watched over her(The Charming Story of Cupid and
Psyche). Cupid showed that he still loved Psyche even though she caught a glimpse of
him. As a result, Psyche waited for Aphrodite to show. She got nervous, therefore, causing
to open the box a crack. A gas poured out and killed her. To save her life, Eros returned
to his visible form, and prodded her with the point of a golden arrow. She awoke
immediately (The Charming Story of Cupid and Psyche). When Psyche woke up and
saw Cupid she said, ...Ive learned that I love you(The Charming Story of Cupid and
Psyche). Finally, Cupid and Psyche trust each other they can get married after the
approval from Zeus. As for Cupid and Psyche, the lived happily ever after(The Charming
Story of Cupid and Psyche). In summary, If there is pure trust, then there is pure love.
