COLD OPEN
INT. PRISON HOLDING CELL - DAY
FIBONACCI STRAUSS [40ish, charming good looks] wears a suit,
a stark contrast to the clothing of his cell-mates. Whereas
they all seem anxious he is calm. Zen.
An ASSHOLE GUARD crosses his arms and addresses Fibs.
ASSHOLE GUARD
I dont get it.
FIBS
I imagine thats common for you.
ASSHOLE GUARD
How you gonna steal over a million
dollars and get out in two years?
FIBS
Maybe I didnt steal it.
ASSHOLE GUARD
Yeah. Or maybe they just couldnt
find it after you did.
Fibs shrugs but a grin creeps up his face. Asshole guard
unlocks the holding cell. The criminals look to the floor.
ASSHOLE GUARD (CONTD)
Prisoner. Pat down.
Fibs walks out of the cell and assumes the position.
ASSHOLE GUARD (CONTD)
Prisoner. Stop resisting.
Fibs isnt doing anything.
ASSHOLE GUARD (CONTD)
Prisoner. Stop resisting.
Asshole guard bangs the back of his hand against a bar, then
radios for support, showing Fibs the mark on his hand.
ASSHOLE GUARD (CONTD)
Assault on C.O. Need back up.
FIBS
You know, that would be a good
trick if you didnt hurt yourself.
ASSHOLE GUARD
Clever enough to get you.
HONEST GUARD shows up. Sees the situation under control.
HONEST GUARD
(to criminals in cell)
Did anyone see anything?
Nobody speaks up. Honest and Asshole stare each other down.
Then Honest puts the cuffs on Fibs.
FIBS
(to criminals in cell)
Its okay. Id do the same thing if
I were still getting out today.
INT. SOLITARY CELL - DAY
Fibs gets thrown in, hard. He recovers nicely.
ASSHOLE GUARD
Assaulting a guard. Thats going to
take six, twelve months off your
parole. Maybe more.
Door shuts. A moment later a slot slides open. An E-reader
slides through. Fibs takes it.
HONEST GUARD
Nothing else I can do.
FIBS
I like you. Ill kill you last.
Honest guard laughs. The slot shuts.
INT. FIBS CELL - DAY
ISAAC [60s, gramps] smiles and hugs Fibs as he enters.
ISAAC
You okay? They mess you up any?
FIBS
Im fine. Figure they wont let me
out on parole anytime soon, though.
ISAAC
Private prisons. Were the product.
2.
FIBS
You still got that contact at human
services? Can you get me a sit
down?
ISAAC
Why?
FIBS
Ive got a plan.
ISAAC
What plan?
INT. PRISON KITCHEN - DAY
Fibs looks at a greasy kitchen with disdain, mop in hand.
FIBS (V.O.)
I take my vocational assignment...
LATER
A half-dozen convicts are scrubbing the kitchen as Fibs skims
an E-reader while sipping a drink through a straw.
FIBS (V.O.)
And turn it into a works program
that employed a dozen inmates.
He looks at the straw curiously. Wheels turn.
INT. PRISON KIOSK - DAY
Fibs reaches through a slot-in-a-door with his straw to punch
a security code into a number pad.
FIBS (V.O.)
I found a program that supplied low-
cost essentials to needy prisoners.
He moves into the kiosk and hands off a pair of flip flops
marked ten dollars in exchange for a five.
INT. PRISON CLASSROOM - DAY
A teacher watches as cons put their tests face down on his
desk. When Fibs reaches him he puts a file down instead.
FIBS (V.O.)
And I get my degrees. Legitimately.
3.
The teacher opens the file to reveal stacks of small bills.
He takes Fibs name off one test and puts it on another.
INT. PAROLE ROOM - DAY
CAMILLE OLSEN [30s, light Swedish accent] looks over the
folder and frowns.
CAMILLE
Youve had a productive year.
FIBS
I was very motivated.
CAMILLE
To get out.
FIBS
Yes.
Camille closes the file with a frown.
FIBS (CONTD)
No. To get out and never come back.
The frown vanishes.
CAMILLE
Telling me what I want to hear?
FIBS
Yes.
Camille smiles.
FIBS (CONTD)
But not for a bad reason.
CAMILLE
Sell me.
FIBS
What?
CAMILLE
Uncle Isaac says youre the best
lair hes ever seen.
FIBS
That doesnt really work if someone
has all the power.
4.
CAMILLE
Do I have all the power?
FIBS
You do.
CAMILLE
Why then should I hire you and let
you out early if doing so would
compromise that position? How could
I keep all the chips on my side?
FIBS
Ankle monitoring.
CAMILLE
Just one?
FIBS
Two monitors from...two companies?
CAMILLE
And?
FIBS
Give me an unimportant job.
CAMILLE
And?
FIBS
Put the most honest guy you have on
me. Someone you trust.
CAMILLE
And?
FIBS
Retain the ability to fire and send
me back to prison at any time?
Camille purses her lips. She opens the folder and signs.
CAMILLE
Ready to get out and finds people
jobs?
Fibs looks to the pen, realizing what hes agreed to.
FIBS
I am seriously not sure anymore...
END COLD OPEN
5.
ACT I
INT. OFFICE LOBBY - DAY
The elevator opens. Camille and a much better dressed Fibs
exit. Hes wearing sunglasses and has BAG OF BELONGINGS.
CAMILLE
This is where clients wait.
Fibs looks around at the dregs of humanity and their
families. They are unkempt and look helpless.
FIBS
I revoke the deal and would like to
go back to prison, please.
CAMILLE
Youll adjust, come on, Ill show
you to your--
Camille turns and sees Fibs kneeling in front of a child. She
stops and examines. Has she misjudged him.
FIBS
(to child)
You being good?
The child nods. Out of Camilles vision Fibs lifts a pink and
studded cellphone off his mother.
FIBS (CONTD)
Liar.
(rises, to Camille)
Sorry, what was that?
CAMILLE
I was just going to introduce you
to your boss...
FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE
TOM MILLS [20s, naive, dog-like] is twirls a pen in his
fingers ineptly. Then he drops it. Then he cant find it.
FIBS
(to Camille)
No. No, no, no.
CAMILLE
Tom!
Tom hits his head on the desk but beams when coming up.
6.
TOM
Camille! Hello! Oh, hi, hello
there, you must be Fibonacci--
FIBS
Fibs.
TOM
Strauss. Mr. Strauss--
FIBS
Fibs.
TOM
Its such a pleasure to meet you.
FIBS
Its a RARE pleasure meeting you as
well. I just need a moment to--
Fibs looks for Camille. Shes already gone.
TOM
Oh yes, shes very silent. Said she
had to learn how to walk that way
to avoid the Swedish polar bears.
FIBS
...and you believed her?
TOM
I did! Now, I dont want you to
think of me as your boss.
FIBS
Done.
TOM
Because I want you to think of us
as partners.
FIBS
Well, partner...
Tom looks wagging-his-tail pleased.
FIBS (CONTD)
...I as wondering if you could
cover for me so I could step out
and go to lunch.
TOM
On your first day? But I--I mean is
it at least very important?
7.
FIBS
Its very important.
TOM
Well I--I mean I have a lot to show
you. We have an appointment
scheduled with our first client.
FIBS
Tom, I have to see my lawyer.
TOM
Shouldnt he have been involved
when signing all those documents?
FIBS
He should have. But hes a very
special lawyer.
INT. HUGHS LEGAL OFFICE - DAY
HUGH [50s, fat, Black, joyous] sits behind a desk with the
saddest, most grim face you ever did see. His client, MARCIA,
weeps into her tissue.
MARCIA
Oh Mr. Jackman. Thank you. Thank
you so much!
HUGH
Im jut sorry I couldnt get you
more. You deserve it Marcia.
MARCIA
This money, it means so much to me.
Ten thousand, it is so very much.
HUGH
So. Very much.
MARCIA
And youre not taking any of it?
HUGH
Due to this injustice, I will be
waving my contingency. Evie!
EVIE WALSH [30s, girl next door, fox-smart] enters and
immediately matches Hughs face.
EVIE
Im so sorry we couldnt do more.
Come here, Ill cut you a check.
8.
Evie and Marcia walk out of the room. Hugh holds up a check
made out to Marcia for twenty-seven thousand.
The phone rings, he picks it up.
HUGH
Hugh.
(beat)
Fiiiiiiiiiibbbbbbs!
INT. OFFICE LOBBY - DAY
The WOMAN Fibs stole the phone from earlier is looking for
it. Fibs spins as he talks to keep it out of her sight.
FIBS
I need to see you.
HUGH (ON PHONE)
Just say when and where.
FIBS
Health and Human services, eighth
floor.
HUGH (OH PHONE)
Ill be there in two shakes.
FIBS
Hugh? Dont tell Evie. I need to
adjust before I see her.
HUGH (ON PHONE)
Of course, man, I understand. Ive
been inside before. Hard to see
exes when you get out.
Fibs hangs up. The woman is still looking. Fibs tosses the
phone beneath a BIKER-DUDES chair.
FIBS
Wow, man. That phone doesnt look
like it belongs to you.
The woman turns and hell breaks loose as Fibs leaves.
INT. HUGHS LEGAL OFFICE - DAY
Hugh hangs up and rises, getting his jacket. Evie pops in.
9.
EVIE
Who was that?
HUGH
Fibs.
A light goes on in Evies face. Her demeanor shifts.
EVIE
Oh. Is he. Did he...maybe...
HUGH
He said he cant wait to see you.
INT. FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE - DAY
FIBS
Okay, bossman. I got my lawyer to
come up here. Compromise.
TOM
Oh, thats so great! I was a little
afraid letting you go before you
got the monitors put on you. I
would have been held responsible if
you fled.
FIBS
(not thinking of it)
Yes. If I had run away before...
TOM
Well. Ready to get started?
FIBS
Show me the business.
INT. RESEARCH ROOM - DAY
A row of computers and filing cabinets furnish the room.
Desks are covered with neat binders.
TOM
This is the Research room. Inside
each of these binders youll find
information for all our programs.
Employers, housing, grants.
FIBS
And these are good for any felon?
10.
TOM
Anyone released today through the
next six months, yes.
Fibs opens the book titled HOUSING and apartment hunts.
FIBS
What are the computers for?
TOM
Database for criminals. To make
sure that you can find a good fit
for a job, or make sure your client
is telling you the truth.
FIBS
Are you telling me that I can look
up anyones criminal history just
by having their name? Or a type of
crime theyve committed?
TOM
Yes.
FIBS
And, for no cost, I can have
blackmail on any criminal?
TOM
(oblivious)
Uh-huh!
FIBS
And you want me to use this for...
HALLWAY OUTSIDE FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE
Tom holds a small file. Inside is JEROME STALL [20s, Black,
stoic, canny].
TOM
So Jeromes a bit of a tough case.
All reports are that he was a nice
guy before he went in for
dealing. Now I cant break him.
FIBS
So what do you want me to do?
TOM
Well now that we have a job, and a
file, I want you to watch me
convince him to take it.
11.
FIBS
You got it.
FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE
TOM
Hello, Jerome.
JEROME
Hey, Tom.
TOM
So Jerome I was--
JEROME
Nope.
TOM
Nope, what?
JEROME
Nope to whatever second-rate, part-
time, suck-ass job you got there.
TOM
Jerome. You cant just--
FIBS
Tom?
Tom makes his way over to Fibs.
FIBS (CONTD)
Is he always like this?
TOM
Hes a bit rough around the edges.
FIBS
Oh. Did you hear that?
TOM
What?
FIBS
Sounds like Camille calling you.
TOM
(to Jerome)
Uh, just a minute.
Tom exits. Fibs lords over Jerome.
12.
FIBS
Im going to need you to sign that.
Fibs pushes a job agreement form to Jerome.
JEROME
(looking it over)
I dont think so.
FIBS
Wrong answer. You dont want to be
a problem today. Wanna see why?
JEROME
Man, you dont need to push me.
Fibs leans forward in a confrontational manner.
HALLWAY OUTSIDE OFFICE
A PLASTIC OFFICE CHAIR comes flying into the hallway. A
second later Fibs runs out screaming. Onlookers gawk as
Jerome comes out of the office, dazed.
Oh my gods and is he alright circulate until Fibs holds
up a palm to the growing crowd.
FIBS
Its okay. That was my mistake.
(he turns to Jerome)
Jerome, lets go back inside. Talk
this out. We can fix this.
FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE
FIBS (CONTD)
And thats how I get an office of
government workers to testify that
youre a violent criminal in under
a minute. Want to see what I can do
in an hour? Sign that piece of
paper or go to prison forever.
Tom comes back in. Fibs plays opossum again.
TOM
No. You must have misheard. Jerome!
Youre looking at the offer!
JEROME
Yeah, Im just looking it over...
Fibs gives him a glower from behind Tom.
13.
JEROME (CONTD)
...you know, before I sign it. I
have some questions, though.
TOM
Of course, what do you need?
JEROME
I need family medical coverage.
TOM
Kids?
JEROME
What! No! Dont be like that! Its
for my aunt.
FIBS
Your aunt...
JEROME
Yeah. Shes taking me in until I
get everything set back up. She has
diabetes, needs coverage.
TOM
Oh. Well, well figure something
out. Weve got programs for guys
like you.
JEROME
What do you mean guys like you.
TOM
Oh, well Fibs here just got out of
prison, too.
JEROME
(2+2)
That so...
TOM
Yep. Oh this is such a good choice!
We can all meet up later today for
your interview.
JEROME
(to Fibs)
Ill see you there.
FIBS
(to Jerome)
Ill keep an eye out for you.
14.
TOM
(whoosh)
And Ill be there too!
Jerome exits and Fibs takes a long breath.
TOM (CONTD)
I wonder what made him change his
mind like that?
Fibs gives Tom a really look before Hugh knocks.
TOM (CONTD)
Hello? Can I help you?
HUGH
Im just here to see my client.
Fibs and Hugh hug like brothers.
FIBS
Tom, could you...
TOM
Of course. Nice to meet you, Mr.
Oh, I didnt get your nam--
Hugh closes the door in Toms face.
HUGH
Tell me something good. Im tired
of almost working for a living.
FIBS
Youre telling me. We have reports
here. Reports.
HUGH
Bastards.
FIBS
The moneys safe, we just--
HUGH
Hold on a second. Someone insisted
on coming despite my protests.
Hugh opens the door and Evie enters. Fibs and Evie look to
one another in a long, slow moment.
FIBS
Hey.
15.
EVIE
Hey.
The moment is long. Heavy. Hugh smirks to himself.
FIBS
So about the money, I--
Evie slaps Fibs across the face.
EVIE
Thats the first thing you say to
me! Something about money!
FIBS
I said hello, first.
EVIE
Oh well arent you a prince.
FIBS
What did you want me to say?
EVIE
How about the first thing you
thought when you saw me?
FIBS
So instead of talking about the
money you wanted me to say, I
thought she would have gotten
fatter?
EVIE
Hugh. We need the room.
Hugh leaves with his hands up, closing the door after. The
second he does she starts to unbuckle Fibs belt.
FIBS
Fair warning, Im only going to
last, like, 30 seconds. Tops.
EVIE
I knew prison couldnt change you.
They rip the clothing off one another.
END ACT I
16.
ACT II
INT. FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE - DAY
Evie looks pleased with herself and Fibs is so relaxed hes
melting into his office chair. A knock at the door.
HUGH
(peeking in)
You two hash it out?
EVIE
Weve called a truce. For now.
HUGH
Young love.
(entering)
So.
FIBS
So the moneys safe.
HUGH
My leader. My brother!
FIBS
But its also not two-point-seven
million dollars anymore.
HUGH
You sonnabitch I waited for you!
EVIE
What do you mean?
FIBS
In order to hide the money I had to
put it into an account that
couldnt be traced back.
EVIE
Traced back to what?
FIBS
Anything. If they found the money
theyd give it back.
HUGH
So where is it?
Fibs pulls up a laptop a web-site that looks like a financial
institution comes up.
17.
FIBS
I put the money into an account
where I could buy an kind of
online money. Then moved that
into another group account where--
HUGH
Shut up and tell me how much!
Fibs pulls an MP3 player out of his prison belongings bag. He
reveals a hidden compartment in it.
FIBS
A little over ten million dollars.
HUGH
...say again?
FIBS
The online money thing? Its
volatile. But its worth four times
as much as when I bought it.
EVIE
Are you telling us that this e-
money is worth ten million dollars?
FIBS
I am.
HUGH
Ten million REAL dollars.
FIBS
Thats right.
HUGH
(to Evie)
If you dont do him again, I will.
Fibs pulls a flash drive from the hidden compartment.
FIBS
There is one small complication,
though...
INT. RESEARCH ROOM - DAY
Fibs, Evie and Hugh look over the files.
EVIE
Whyd you have to encrypt the drive
with something you couldnt crack?
18.
FIBS
So I couldnt tell you the password
even if I wanted to.
HUGH
So what are we looking for?
FIBS
A hacker with two strikes.
AMANDA NETTE [20s, chubby, nerd-cute] appears on screen.
INT. OFFICE HALLWAY - DAY
Fibs, Evie and Hugh walks down the hallway in step.
FIBS
All we have to do is head over, get
her to crack this file. Then were--
HUGH
Rich.
EVIE
Set.
FIBS
Ready for the next step. And
nothing can stop us--
Camille appears. She has a cold calmness about her.
CAMILLE
Mr. Strauss. And companions. Mr.
Strauss, who are these people?
FIBS
This is my lawyer.
HUGH
Charmed and bedeviled.
FIBS
And this is--
EVIE
His ex. Wanting to see how hes
adjusting.
CAMILLE
His ex? Well, hes transitioning
poorly.
19.
In fact hes sent a co-worker to my
office and the only fist fight to
occur happened after he was hired.
FIBS
Actually I was just about to head
out and find this--
CAMILLE
If you do not come to my office to
be monitored right now I will send
you back to prison immediately.
HUGH
Your vocabulary is very strong.
CAMILLE
Your flattery isnt. Come.
INT. OFFICE LOBBY - DAY
Fibs exit Camilles office with two monitors attached to his
leg. He pulls his slacks over them but they make a bulge.
CAMILLE
I will now know where you are at
all times. If you exceed a three
mile radius of this building you
will be immediately arrested. Now,
where were you going?
FIBS
Tom got a lead on a job for a
client and--
CAMILLE
Tom!
Tom bounds around the corner in dog-like happiness.
TOM
Hi, Camille. Hi, Fibs!
CAMILLE
You were going to head out of the
office to help a client?
TOM
Sure was!
Camille narrows her eyes at Fibs who smiles.
CAMILLE (CONT'D)
20.
CAMILLE
Carry on.
She exits and Fibs wraps an arm around Toms shoulder.
FIBS
Im going to buy you the biggest
pizza.
TOM
Really?
FIBS
Sure am. When I have the money to
do so. Which I dont.
TOM
Oh thats okay. Pizza does sound
good, though...Oh, I know, Ill buy
the pizza!
FIBS
Tom. That is an amazing idea. Mind
if we do a quick errand real quick?
Fibs gives a follow us gesture to Evie and Hugh.
INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - DAY
Fibs is holding a pizza. Hugh and Evie flank him.
EVIE
Howd you get your chaperone to
stay in the car?
FIBS
I told him to say in the car.
HUGH
The luck you have...
Fibs pounds on a door.
FIBS
Its all skill.
HUGH
You fall ass backwards into money
and a hall monitor with room digit
I.Q.
21.
FIBS
I knew I should have said I meant
for the money to grow.
Fibs slams the door again.
EVIE
Do you two ever stop measuring
dicks?
HUGH
We did that once. The result was
SURPRISING.
FIBS
Only surprised you.
EVIE
Have you forgotten Ive actually
slept with you?
FIBS
Which one of us are you talking to?
Evie punches Fibs arm. Then the door opens and the air
between them changes entirely. Their posture becomes rigid,
their eyes narrowed. The con is on.
AMANDA
(peeking out of door)
Yes?
INT. AMANDAS APARTMENT - NIGHT
The trio pushes their way into the apartment.
FIBS
Freeze. F-I-B-S.
AMANDA
Oh my god.
Fibs moves over to a table and puts the pizza down. Evie and
Hugh flank him looking stoic and agent-like.
FIBS
Youre in a lot of trouble, missy.
AMANDA
What is happening, right now. Wait,
did you misspell FBI?
22.
FIBS
(snapping)
Pay attention, are you paying
attention? Pay attention.
AMANDA
Im paying attention!
FIBS
This is your third strike. Youre
going away forever. Unless, unless.
Amanda is on the hook, shes all his. He pulls out the flash
drive and hands it to her before picking up a slice of pizza.
FIBS (CONTD)
Unless you can crack whats on this
drive.
AMANDA
You cant...crack...
FIBS
Its time sensitive and we need
your help. An entire operation
depends on it. Can you do it?
Amanda plugs the flash drive into a laptop and decyphers.
AMANDA
Okay, this is pretty basic.
FIBS
(mouth full)
Can you do it?
AMANDA
Yes. Yes--do those two talk?
FIBS
No. Agent Dred Scott lost his
tongue in deep cover during Iran-
Contra.
Hugh grunts in a menacing way, playing along.
FIBS (CONTD)
And Agent Briar Rose is a cold,
calculating, sociopathic, demented--
Evie kicks Fibs when Amandas not looking.
FIBS (CONTD)
Sorry, what was the question?
23.
The computer beeps. Amandas face lights up, then falls into
a frown of confusion.
AMANDA
This isnt data...this is...money?
Fibs pulls the data stick from the computer. Hugh grabs a
slice of pizza and all three start to head out.
FIBS
Youre off the hook, this time. But
if we ever catch you back-walling
IPOs with your subbed routine--
AMANDA
This is hidden money. Its probably
stolen. Youre criminals. Ill call
the cops!
FIBS
The number is nine-one-one.
The trio exits and closes the door.
AMANDA
(yelling)
Ill trip the accounts security
and put it on lockdown.
Beat. Then Evie storms in followed by Hugh and Fibs.
EVIE
Ill kill her, she threatened my
money, Ill kill her.
HUGH
Ill help.
Amanda runs to a couch and picks up a cushion defensively.
FIBS
You cant kill her.
EVIE
She threatened my money. Give me
one good reason.
FIBS
My monitors. Theyll know I was
here.
EVIE
(to Amanda)
Dont take any long walks alone.
24.
FIBS
Im going to try and convince you
to not blackmail us. It wont end
well for you.
AMANDA
Im not blackmailing you.
FIBS
You just said--
AMANDA
That was to keep you here. Can I...
She puts down the couch cushion like its a bomb then moves
over to the laptop.
AMANDA (CONTD)
When you set up this account you
put it under a fake name.
FIBS
How did you know?
AMANDA
Because the occupation on the
account is Nigerian Haberdasher.
FIBS
Get to the--
AMANDA
Youre going to need more than a
fake ID to get this money, dude.
Youre going to need a whole fake
account. Social, papers.
FIBS
So Ill get them.
AMANDA
You cant get them. Youre going
to have to trick multiple systems
on multiple fronts at once while
youre in the exchange in person.
FIBS
What are you saying?
AMANDA
You need a hacker.
(looking around apartment)
And I need money. And you have nine
million dollars, so--
25.
HUGH
Ten.
AMANDA
What?
EVIE
Ten million dollars.
AMANDA
This morning maybe. Right now its
worth nine.
All three shoot a look to Fibs.
FIBS
Its a volatile investment.
Tension in the room. A beep. Fibs looks to his cell.
FIBS (CONTD)
Damnit. I need head to a warehouse
for work.
EVIE
Well one of us has to stay here to
watch her.
FIBS
(to Amanda)
Who would you be more comfortable--
AMANDA
(points to Hugh)
Him.
FIBS
Hugh, with me.
Hugh takes another slice of pizza and he and Fibs walk out.
Evie stretches and sits with eyes like molten hate.
EXT. TOMS CAR - DAY
Tom lights up the moment he sees Fibs.
TOM
Oh, you got my text! Are you ready?
FIBS
I doubt it. Lets go.
END ACT II
26.
ACT III
INT. WAREHOUSE OUTSIDE OFFICE - DAY
Fibs and Tom stride towards the office door.
FIBS
So, know what youre going to say
to get Jerome a job?
TOM
Oh, no, Im really more here as an
pillar than an advocate.
FIBS
Well no skin off my nose.
TOM
I have to say you take the prospect
of getting fired of going back to
prison really well.
FIBS
Why are you bringing that up?
TOM
Oh, Camille said that if I couldnt
get Jerome a job that shed fire
you. Isnt that funny! Shes funny.
FIBS
So funny. Ill see you in there.
Fibs shoves Tom forward then does a 180. Hugh, for a large
man, has done a great job shadowing them unseen.
HUGH
You look paler than normal.
FIBS
I have to get this guy a job or I
go back in.
HUGH
Man. Thats rough. Maybe you should
give me the data stick so I--
FIBS
I also made sure that you have to
know a password when you ask for
the money in person.
27.
HUGH
Damn. Okay. So, do we have a plan?
FIBS
No. But call Evie, get her down
here. Bring Amanda to.
HUGH
What for?
FIBS
(running to office)
I dont know! Do it!
INT. WAREHOUSE MANAGERS OFFICE - DAY
A slimy and beady-eyed MANAGER looks over paperwork at a lax
and uninterested Jerome and upbeat Tom as Fibs enters.
FIBS
Sorry, sorry. Please keep going.
MANAGER
We havent started yet. You need
two advocates?
JEROME
I dont even need one.
TOM
What Mr. Stall means is...that
he...is...
FIBS
(whisper to Tom)
I will give you anything you want
if you let me take over.
TOM
(whisper back)
Im under strict orders.
FIBS
(harsh whisper)
Whats more important doing what
youre told or getting a win?
MANAGER
You two need me for this?
28.
FIBS
Mr. Stall is a go-getter. An
enterprising gentleman who was
busted for, busted for...
JEROME
Dealing.
FIBS
He was just trying to make money
within the parameters of the system
he was born into. Hes done his
time, he was non-violent. Sign this
deal. The program pays the first...
TOM
Three months.
FIBS
Three months of his salary. This is
a win.
The manager looks Jerome up and down and uncaps a pen. Jerome
realizes that Fibs REALLY wants him to have a job.
JEROME
I have some questions.
FIBS
(whisper to Jerome)
What are you doing?
JEROME
(whisper back)
I want in.
(to Manager)
What kind of health coverage do
yall have?
MANAGER
We dont give health.
JEROME
Man, thats a shame...
(rising)
Oh well. Sorry guys.
Jerome walks out of the room.
FIBS
Mr. Stall is just--screw it, Tom,
talk to him.
Fibs races after Jerome.
29.
TOM
Why do they call them fork-lifts?
WAREHOUSE OUTSIDE OFFICE
FIBS
Jerome!
Jerome turns to with a grin.
JEROME
And thats how I screw you over in
60 seconds. Wanna see what I can do
in an hour?
FIBS
What do you want?
JEROME
I want in.
FIBS
In on what?
JEROME
Whatever your plan is, man.
FIBS
What plan, also, what in the world
would I need you for?
JEROME
I see you got a leg monitor on you
from the way that suit is jutting
out. I just happen to be a leg man.
Ive got job experience.
FIBS
You have to work this job.
JEROME
Youre not hearing me.
FIBS
Youre not hearing me. I will pay
you a thousand a week, on retainer,
but you ALSO have to work this job
for cover.
JEROME
Two thousand.
30.
FIBS
Screw it. Hugh!
Hugh, remarkably good at shadowing, appears yet again.
HUGH
Boss?
FIBS
How many times did Jerome here take
a swing at me just now?
HUGH
Got you in the gut twice.
JEROME
Thats a lie.
FIBS
Yes, and I have more people telling
them than you do the truth. One
thousand.
JEROME
And an apology.
FIBS
For what!
JEROME
For throwing a chair and blaming
me.
FIBS
People throw chairs all the time!
(beat)
Im sorry, alright. I HATE TODAY.
Fibs takes Jerome by the arm and leads back to...
MANAGERS OFFICE
TOM
Oh, because theres a fork on the
front and they lift things!
Jerome and Fibs enter.
FIBS
Jerome.
JEROME
Im sorry for earlier and will do a
real good job.
31.
FIBS
See? And I didnt even force him to
say that.
MANAGER
Get out.
WAREHOUSE OUTSIDE OFFICE
FIBS
Well, Im going back to prison.
HUGH
Come on, Fibs. There has to be
something we can do.
Evie and Amanda arrive. No love between them.
EVIE
Whats wrong?
HUGH
Fibs is going back to prison.
EVIE
Oh thank god. I thought the money
went down again.
JEROME
Man.
FIBS
What?
JEROME
Just sucks you cant blackmail him
like you did me, huh?
TOM
Im sorry, what now? And you all
know Fibs? I have so many
questions.
FIBS
Tom, go wait in the car.
TOM
Okay!
The group is shocked at how easy it is to get Tom to exit.
AMANDA
Why did you do that?
32.
FIBS
I have a plan.
INT. WAREHOUSE MANAGERS OFFICE - DAY
The Manager is messing around when Evie appears. His
attention immediately goes to her. She holds an application
and then does a Im so stupid and lost routine.
FIBS (V.O.)
Evie get, him out of there.
EVIE (V.O.)
Done.
The manager presumably leads her to something on site. The
moment he exits. Amanda comes in and starts poking at his
hard drive.
FIBS (V.O.)
This guy is slimy as hell. Can you
find anything hes hidden?
AMANDA (V.O.)
If its on a computer I can.
Amanda smirks to herself and does a quick export.
INT. CAMILLES OFFICE - DAY
Jerome makes his way in. Camille is brighter and easier with
him than any of the crew.
FIBS (V.O.)
We get the file, we go back home,
Im going to need a distraction.
JEROME (V.O.)
I can run interference.
HUGH (V.O.)
Distraction for what?
INT. RESEARCH ROOM - DAY
Fibs and Amanda look over the data on a computer.
FIBS (V.O.)
So we can get into the records room
and use the data to force this jack-
ass to do what I say.
33.
HUGH (V.O.)
One problem. You dont actually
know any of this. You need someone
who does. You need...
Tom is in the room but he looks uncertain.
TOM
It just--it feels like a lot of
sneaking around for something
good.
FIBS
I know it does, but trust me--
TOM
I cant though, can I. I mean. You
lie, you steal. I know that I am
seem stupid but Im not. I just
thought maybe you were more
reformed than you were.
FIBS
(earnestly hurt)
You dont think Im reformed?
TOM
I dont think its your fault. I
think the system we have now is
bad, which is why Im here. Which
is why Camille came here from
another country. Do you know what I
want more than anything?
(off Fibs head shake)
To help people.
FIBS
You really mean that?
TOM
I think that we can help
generations of people by getting
rid of for-profit-prisons.
FIBS
Tom, Im never going to want to
help people.
TOM
I kind of figured...
34.
FIBS
But if you want to hurt a private
prison there is nobody you want in
your corner more than me. Youre
right, Im a bastard.
TOM
I didnt say that.
FIBS
You did, and its okay. Because I
can be your bastard. This guy?
(gestures to computer)
Hes a wage slaver. Hes an
asshole. And hes going to take
just as much advantage of the
people this project sends him as
any prison. But you can stop that.
TOM
...how?
INT. CAMILLES OFFICE - NIGHT
Tom lays a stack of papers down on Camilles desk. She looks
up in an almost bemused state.
CAMILLE
And whats all this?
TOM
Its a signed agreement from the
warehouse owner. It says that the
next twenty hires will come from
this program.
CAMILLE.
Tom...how...did you...
TOM
I showed the owner what the manager
was doing. Discrimination, wasnt
promoting women, the works. In
exchange for not allowing this
information to go public...
CAMILLE
I didnt think you had that in you.
TOM
Me neither.
35.
INT. FIBS AND TOMS OFFICE - NIGHT
Fibs, Evie, Hugh and Amanda are drinking beer and eating
pizza in a semi-celebratory atmosphere.
HUGH
Happy you got out of prison yet?
FIBS
Not even remotely. But I will be.
EVIE
So how long we have to keep this
routine up?
FIBS
Amanda?
AMANDA
In order to fool the exchange we
need to hit three targets at once.
Were going to need this massive
amount of equipment and its not
just the kind of--
FIBS
Oh my god stop talking.
AMANDA
(huffy)
Well you asked so I--
FIBS
Stop talking or Ill tell everyone
your real name.
(proving a point)
It starts with a G-E.
AMANDA
Alright, Ill be good!
EVIE
Why do you call yourself Amanda
Nette anyway?
AMANDA
Because when youre a girl on the
internet you get more surprise
sausage than these pizzas...
36.
INT. CAMILLES OFFICE - NIGHT
Camille is smirking to herself looking over Toms paperwork
when the phone rings.
CAMILLE
Hello?
PHONE (O.S.)
You have a call from CORRECTIONAL
FACILITY. Do you accept this call?
CAMILLE
Yes.
BRIAN (O.S.)
Camille?
CAMILLE
Brian.
INT. PRISON PHONE BANK - NIGHT
Brian is still wearing the prison get up.
BRIAN
(on phone)
So? Is he leading you to the money?
INT. CAMILLES OFFICE - NIGHT
Camille looks over to a screen. It shows Fibs exact
location along with some other data.
CAMILLE
(on phone)
Hes in his office now with his old
criminal friends. Hes leading us
right to it...
FADE OUT
