PARTNER CHECKLIST

(SUBLASSES 309-Partner (Provisional) AND 300-Prospective Marriage)


The following documentation is required for a full assessment of your application. Lodgement of a complete
application will facilitate the processing times in the majority of cases. Your application could be delayed if
outstanding documentation is requested after lodgement.
Note: the High Commission recommends that you do not make non-refundable or unalterable travel
arrangements. There is no guarantee that you will be granted a visa. The High Commission will not give an
application higher processing priority simply because travel arrangements have been made.
All application and sponsorship forms are available free of charge from www.immi.gov.au
Please do not submit the actual passport if the health examination has not been completed as the passport will be
required for the health examination.
Please submit this completed checklist with your application.
You are requested to provide the following items as relevant to your application. Please note that documents not in
English must be translated into English and the original translation must be submitted. A true certified copy of the
original is also required.
Please contact VFS Pty Ltd (VFS) for their acceptable payment types and current immigration visa application
charge amounts. VFS will charge a service fee above the visa application charge.

Completed and signed application Form 47SP (available from www.immi.gov.au)


Completed and signed sponsorship Form 40SP (available from www.immi.gov.au)
Payment of the Australian Government Visa Application Charge. Advice on how to pay this charge can be
found at www.vfs-au.co.za OR if the Visa Application Charge has been paid to an office of the Department
of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia, the original pink copy of the receipt must be submitted.
A photocopy of the biodata page of the current valid passport for each applicant. Please do not submit the
actual passport if the health examination has not been completed as the passport will be required for the
health examination.
4 x recent (no older than 6 months) passport photos for all applicants and one passport photo of the sponsor
Certified evidence of any name changes i.e. by deed poll / marriage etc for all persons included in the
application
Certified copy of military service record or discharge certificate
Evidence of sponsor's Australia citizenship, permanent residence or eligible New Zealand citizenship (i.e.
evidence of residence in Australia on 26 February 2001)
Certified copy of FULL birth certificate showing names of both parents (obtained from the Department of
Home Affairs or equivalent) for ALL persons applying for migration and any child/children under the age of
18 not migrating
Certified copy of your marriage certificate OR Defacto Partner applicants - evidence that the relationship
has existed for at least 12 months IMMEDIATELY before the date of lodgement of the application,
including any evidence of cohabitation (such as property leases, joint bank accounts, mortgage documents)
Certified copy of any divorce certificates of previous partner/s of applicant and sponsor
Certified copy of any death certificate of previous partner/s of applicant and sponsor
Separate written statement (signed and dated) from you and your partner detailing the history of your
relationship
Evidence of ongoing relationship with your sponsor, eg. letters, emails, cards, telephone accounts, money
orders.

At least 2 original statutory declarations from individuals with personal knowledge of your relationship.
Statements may be made by the applicants and sponsors family members/relatives. Certified evidence of
the declarants identification eg copy of passport, identity document must be attached to the statutory
declaration.
Prospective Marriage/Fianc applicants - evidence that you and your fianc have met and are personally
known to each other (such as original photos of the two of you together) AND evidence that you intend
marrying your fianc within nine months of being granted this visa (i.e. a certified copy of a Notice of Intent
to Marry or a letter from the marriage celebrant reflecting the date of the proposed marriage)
Photographic evidence of the relationship (photographs/albums will be returned)
If another parent (such as an ex-spouse) has custody or access rights to any minor children included in the
application, an original completed migration consent form for the child, signed by the other parent (the
consent form is available on the www.vfs-au.co.za website under Checklists) Alternatively, the other parent
can provide a signed and witnessed letter giving their consent to the childs migration. In either case a copy
of the other parents identification must be provided with the consent, as well as a telephone number or other
contact details. If you have sole custody of the child/children, please provide evidence.
If child/children has been adopted, a certified copy of adoption documentation
If child/children or other dependents included in the application are over 18 years or older, Form 47A
(available at www.immi.gov.au) and evidence of their FINANCIAL dependency on the applicant at time of
application
Evidence of sponsors funds to support sponsorship undertaking. This may include, but is not limited to,
letter from employer, recent payslips, recent tax assessment notices or bank statements.
If an applicant is under 18, and the sponsor has spent at least 12 months or more in Australia since turning
16 years of age, the sponsor will be required to provide an Australian National Police Certificate if the
person has spent a total of 12 months or more in Australia since turning 16 years of age; and police checks
from each country other than Australia in which the person has spent a total of 12 months of more in the last
10 years since turning 16 years of age. Information about obtaining an Australian NPC can be found at
www.afp.gov.au/business/national_police_checks or by telephoning the AFP in Australia on (02) 6202 3333.
When completing the NPC application form please use Code 33 at Question 1 on the form and include
details of any, and all, names you have been known by. If an AFP certificate is provided based on incorrect
information, the department may request another certificate. Please note fingerprints are not required for the
NPC.

If an applicant is under 18, and the sponsor has not spent at least 12 months or more in Australia since
turning 16 years of age, the sponsor will be required to provide police certificates from each country in
which they have spent a total of 12 months or more in the last 10 years since turning 16 years of age.
Police clearance certificates for all applicants and non-migrating children who are 16 years and older from
all countries in which they have lived for a period of 12 months or more in the past 10 years. If the sponsor is
an eligible New Zealand citizen they are required to provide police clearance certificates for all countries in
which they have lived for a period of 12 months or more in the past 10 years. ORIGINALS must be
provided, as copies of police clearances, even when certified, are not acceptable for migration purposes.
Health examinations from an Australian approved panel doctor are required for all applicants included in the
application and any other children (under the age of 18) who are not migrating. Radiological (chest)
examinations are also required for persons who are 11 years and older. If the sponsor is an eligible New
Zealand citizen they are required to undertake full health examinations (Forms are available from panel

Discretionary Assurance of Support (may be requested after assessment completed)
Visa application charges are subject to change. Please confirm current fee before you lodge your
application.
This is a list of general requirements. Once your application is assessed you may be required to
provide additional information.
