HPGD1103 - CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
ASSIGNMENT (60%)
OBJECTIVE:
In this assignment you will review the psychological foundations of curriculum and
decide which of those orientations will be more useful for teaching and learning. You will
also develop an enrichment program for a course of study based on an appropriate
model of curriculum development.
PART A:
Weighting: 40%
TASK:
Many nations around the world are trying to ensure that higher order thinking skills are
incorporated both in the teaching and learning process as well as in the assessment. In
about 7-8 pages, discuss which of the psychological orientations is/are best suited to
accomplish this intention.

PART B
Weighting: 60 %
Prepare a course outline of an enrichment programme in a specified subject area/
course of study of your choice for primary/secondary school or college/university
students that would help them to further enhance their understanding of the course
content.

ASSIGNMENT FORMAT:
Should be about 15 pages in length, excluding appendices and references. All sources
of information must be cited, using the APA style and format. Assignment should contain
these sections:
(a) For part A of the assignment, you should read 1 -2 journal articles or books on the
various orientations of the psychological foundations. You will then need to decide which
of these are more suitable for teaching and learning as well as for assessment. Provide
reasons for your selection and support from the literature reviewed.
(b) For part B of the assignment, you will prepare an enrichment programme that will
help students to enhance their understanding in one of the topics of the course or for the
entire course. You are required to provide descriptions and illustrations for each of the
sub-topics listed. You could develop the programme based on any suitable models of
curriculum development.
Note:
The assignment MUST be submitted by the FOURTH seminar.
