    There are several types of poems described in the document. Acrostic poems have the first letter of each line spell out a word or phrase vertically. Shape poems use words arranged in the shape of an object to describe that object. Haikus consist of 3 lines with a 5-7-5 syllable structure. Diamantes have a diamond shape with lines that mirror each other. Rhyming poems repeat similar sounds at the end of lines. Autobiographical poems are written about oneself using a template of descriptive words and phrases.

    TYPES of POEM

    ACROSTIC POEM

    A rainbow plays in the water spray


    It hides in a chandelier.
    It always seems to find its way
    through the glass when light is near.

    Sweet girl.
    Has a sweet heart.

    A nice friend.
    Rocks this world.
    On the best friend list.
    Never alone.
    SHAPE (or CONCRETE):
    Shape poems are made up of words
    that have been placed in such a way
    that they make the shape of an object
    and also use words to describe the
    object.

    HAIKU:
    Haiku consists of 3 lines and
    17 syllables.
    Each line has a set number of syllables
    see below:
    Line 1 5 syllables
    Line 2 7 syllables
    Line 3 5 syllables

    An Example of a Haiku

    EXAMPLES:
    (5) The sky is so blue.
    (7) The sun is so warm up high.
    (5) I love the summer.

    DIAMANTE:
    The Diamante is a form similar to
    the Cinquain. The text forms the
    shape of a diamond.

    Sharp, skinny
    Writing, answering, erasing
    Wood, lead, ink, plastic
    Drawing, smudging, leaking
    Durable, comfortable
    Pen

    Rhymes

    are types of poems which


    have the repetition of the same or
    similar sounds at the end of two or
    more words most often at the ends of
    lines.

    Autobiographical Poetry
    An autobiographical poem is a poem
    you write about yourself. This format is
    also referred to as a bio poem.

    Funny, smart, and caring
    Daughter of Sarah and Jack

    Who loves dancing, animals, and riding her bike

    Who gives books, shoes, and kind words
