A CITY OF DESIGN
Design is a part of the Danish way of life. Open almost any
interior magazine and youre almost bound to see examples of
mid-century classics created by legendary Danish designers.

Copenhagens leading design hive,

Designmuseum Danmark, is currently
undergoing a major remake. In 2014,
the museum opened a new textile
and fashion collection. In early 2015,
the museum will remodel many of its
permanent galleries to highlight the
nations twentieth-century design tradition. The many events and exhibitions are featured on the museum
website www.designmuseum.dk. And
while you are there dont forget to
visit the tranquil and leafy courtyard
for a coffee or lunch. Copenhagens
design museum is located on Bredgade, one of the main arteries of the
citys royal district, Frederiksstaden.
The street is known for its many art
galleries and classic vintage design
showrooms.
Urban design
You can also explore the world of
Danish and international design at
DAC, the Danish Architecture
Center, which is housed in a herit22 CPH-TOURIS T.DK

age waterside warehouse and features exhibitions. Architecture podwalks can be downloaded from the
DAC website www.dac.dk so grab
a bike and let your smartphone guide
you to the citys new urban developments. Between 19 June and 30 August 2015, the Kings Garden will feature a pavilion highlighting the nations tradition for woodcraft. The
event is hosted by the Danish Architect Association. Just north of Copenhagen, you can also visit the private
home of legendary mid-century Danish furniture designer Finn Juhl, which
is today part of the Ordrupgaard
Museum.
