The Lamb of God
The Lamb of God
Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had
been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha
served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. Then Mary took a
pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her
hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then one of His disciples, Judas
Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for
three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but
because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But
Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have
with you always, but Me you do not have always.” Now a great many of the Jews knew that
He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus,
whom He had raised from the dead. But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,
because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples,
“You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to
be crucified.”
Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent
Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, that
whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does
not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that
I have spoken will judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority; but
the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And
I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has
told Me, so I speak.”
TUESDAY NIGHT
Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, His disciples
said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?” And
He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the
city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow
him. Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The
Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the
Passover with My disciples?” ‘ Then he will show you a large
upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.”
So His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it
just as He had said to them; and they prepared the Passover. And
as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and
gave it to them and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He
took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them,
and they all drank from it. And He said to them, “This is My
blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. Assuredly, I
say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that
day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” And when they
had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
NOTE: The Holy Days begin and end at sunset. Therefore, Jesus had the disciples prepare for
the Passover before sunset on Tuesday, because Tuesday, sunset, was the beginning of Passover.
Jesus fervently desired to eat the Passover (Last Supper) with His disciples before He suffered...
“Then He said to them, ‘With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I
suffer’” (Luke 22:15).
In Leviticus 23:5-6, we see that Passover begins the days of Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of
Unleavened Bread is celebrated for the seven days following Passover. In The Bible, these eight
days were often referred to as either Passover as a whole, or The Feast of Unleavened Bread as a
whole... “Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover” (Luke 22:1).

TUESDAY NIGHT
After Supper, Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
- John 13:1
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all
flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life,
that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified
You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father,
glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were
Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things
which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given
Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they
have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom
You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am
glorified in them.
Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father,
keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While
I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name.

TUESDAY NIGHT
Jesus Prays for His Disciples - John 17 (cont)
Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that
the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world,
that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world
has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that
You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They
are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them
into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in
Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given
them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made
perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You
have loved Me.
Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may
behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known
that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with
which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
...The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise,
let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas,
one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and
the scribes and the elders. Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss,
He is the One; seize Him and lead Him away safely.” As soon as He had come, immediately he
went up to Him and said to Him, “Rabbi, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. Then they laid their hands on
Him and took Him.

TUESDAY NIGHT
Jesus is Arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane - John 18:4-8 CJB
Yeshua, who knew everything that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them,
“Whom do you want?” “Yeshua from Natzeret,” they answered. He said to them, “I AM.”
Also standing with them was Y’hudah, the one who was betraying him. When he said, “I
AM,” they went back ward from him and fell to the ground. So he inquired of them once
more, “Whom do you want?” and they said, “Yeshua from Natzeret.” “I told you, `I AM,’”
answered Yeshua, “so if I’m the one you want, let these others go.”
And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high
priest that year. Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one
man should die for the people.
Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,
but found none. For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not
agree. Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, “We heard Him say, ‘I
will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made
without hands.’ “ But not even then did
their testimony agree. And the high priest
stood up in the midst and asked Jesus,
saying, “Do You answer nothing? What
is it these men testify against You?” But
He kept silent and answered nothing.
Again the high priest asked Him, saying
to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of
the Blessed?” Jesus said, “I am. And you
will see the Son of Man sitting at the right
hand of the Power, and coming with the
clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest
tore his clothes and said, “What further
need do we have of witnesses? You have
heard the blasphemy! What do you
think?” And they all condemned Him to
be deserving of death. Then some began
to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him,
and to beat Him, and to say to Him,
“Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him
with the palms of their hands.

WEDNESDAY MORNING -
PASSOVER DAY
Jesus is Sent to Pilate - John 18:28-38
When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that
He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that
time. Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time
to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle
done by Him. Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. And
the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. Then Herod, with his men of
war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent
Him back to Pilate.
Herod Sends Jesus Back to Pilate... Pilate Finds No Fault in Jesus - Luke 23:13-15
Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, said to
them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having
examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of
which you accuse Him; no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing
deserving of death has been done by Him.
Page 7
So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him. And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and
put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe. Then they said, “Hail, King of the
Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands. Pilate then went out again, and said to them,
“Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.”...
“I will therefore chastise Him and release Him” (for it was necessary for him to release one
to them at the feast). And they all cried out at once, saying, “Away with this Man, and release
to us Barabbas”-- who had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city,
and for murder. Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them. But they
shouted, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” Then he said to them the third time, “Why,
what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him
and let Him go.” But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified.
And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed. So Pilate gave sentence that
it should be as they requested. And he released to them the one they requested, who for
rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to
the Jews, “Behold your King!” But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify
Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have
no king but Caesar!” Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
Jesus is Crucified on Passover - John 19:16-19
....So they took Jesus and led Him away. And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place
called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him,
and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. Now Pilate wrote a title and
put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil
of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were
split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep
were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy
city and appeared to many. So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding
Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying,
“Truly this was the Son of God!”
WEDNESDAY EVENING
Jesus is Buried by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus - Matthew 27:57-61
Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who
himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body
of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given to him. When Joseph had taken the
body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn
out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.

Jesus Sleeps in His Tomb for Three Days and Three Nights
WEDNESDAY SUNSET - THURSDAY SUNSET = NIGHT AND DAY ONE
THURSDAY SUNSET - FRIDAY SUNSET = NIGHT AND DAY TWO
FRIDAY SUNSET - SATURDAY SUNSET= NIGHT AND DAY THREE
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want
to see a sign from You.” But He answered and said to them, “An evil and
adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except
the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights
in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three
nights in the heart of the earth. - Matthew 12:38-40

EARLY SUNDAY MORNING
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene and the Other Mary
on the First Day of the Week - Matthew 28:1-10
SUNDAY EVENING
Jesus Appears to the Disciples - John 20:19-22; Matthew 28: 16-20
Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut
where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst,
and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands
and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them
again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said
this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed
for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and
spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore
and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you...
“And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
