Our Approach

What is Master Data Management?

Master Data Management (MDM) refers to establishing an authoritative and
reliable foundation for data used across many applications and
constituencies with the goal to provide accurate, authoritative and timely
information.
What is MDM
The management of the fundamental data
building blocks that are shared across multiple
business transactions, analytics and reference
entities
An infrastructure that is built once and then
managed
A program or function, not a one-time project
Different types of master data include:
Well Identifier
Product
Supplier
Customer
Worker/Employee

Why is MDM Important?

Master data is a strategic asset of the business
and needs to be managed with the diligence of
other strategic assets
Developing a strategy for managing master data
can help alleviate some of the businesss
informational pain points
Master data management provides the business
with consistent and comprehensive core
information across the enterprise
Master data management provides better
performance and process improvement
Master data management helps satisfy
governance, regulatory and compliance
requirements

Our Approach

What is Master Data Management?

Reporting Perspective:
Master Data Management is required for coordinating and rationalizing disparate
dimensional models or hierarchies across systems. This is critical for business
performance management. (IDC MDM White Paper, 2005)

Transactional Perspective:
For an operational system to be able to capture and update transactions, the referenced
master data must already be in place. Proper management and maintenance of master
data . Is required to ensure the integrity of any order management system. (IDC MDM
White Paper, 2005)
This extends well beyond order entry systems. (Production, Accounting, Maintenance,
etc.)

Content Management and Integration Perspective:

Document and records management systems rely on consistent tags (key words,
taxonomies and record identifiers to properly store and retrieve content.

Integration Perspective:
Having consistent tags within your Records/File Management systems as well as in your
operational and analytical systems provides a means to more readily integrate data
across medias.

Gathering the data across different applications and media can be

extremely complex. Today not many organizations are actively
managing their master data across their applications and knowledge

Super-Major
MDM Program:
Have a major project for Master Data Management:
Leveraging multiple tools and processes (SAP, Subscription Cleansing, others)

Data Quality and Governance:

Have teams in place to do on-going data sampling and cleansing
Have data stewards and processes to address quality concerns and take corrective
action

Content Management and Integration Perspective:

Are leveraging common tables from application master data to drive drop-downs and
other key words for the document management and e-mail tagging
Require common tags on e-mail and documents
Implementing common retention codes for data (e-mail, files, applications, DW/BI)
