D&D Character Background Draki (D&D 5e)
<please at some point confer amongst the other players to find character
connections and other hooks; you dont have to have your characters
know each other personally but good hooks are a plus.>
Step 2: Write 2-3 background and concept elements that you feel are
important to your image of the character. These can be a concept
overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a
personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind.
1. Hes good. And a good guy. And a good person. Hes young,
and has little in the way of experience of the world, so while his
education and existant experience are enough that he knows
some of the harsher truths of reality, he does not really
understand them in the way he thinks he does. He is good, but
its never really been put to the test, so all the signs of
goodness he displays are actually somewhat shallow, and
frequently unthinking; merely this is how a good guy acts/I
should act so I will and not much consideration as to the truly
right option. Someday he will be put to the test, and whatever
happens that is a day he will never forget.
2. Hes possessive. His greed is in his blood, inherited from his
forebears both mortal and draconic, and it is great. But it is not
bad, nor is it a bad thing. His faith in his homes future is tied to
it. His dedication to protecting his people all of them is tied
to it. His religion and his possessive desire are intertwined on a
level he isnt even aware to the point its difficult to tell the two
apart (and this utterly draconic aspect of his nature is one of the
Step 5: Describe at least two people that are tied to the character.
One of them is friendly to the character, and at least one is hostile. If
you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an
instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1. (Friendly) Name Christine Kris Freyja Brontesion Age 19.
One of Drakis older sisters and the closest in age, Kris middle
name was chosen by a relative as a blessing. She took to it.
Clever, flirty, a talent for arcane magic sending her to a life in
the University was the only option to keep her from becoming
too popular amongst the gossip circles of the city. As it is, she
ended up still a name of notereity but instead of it being for her
unforgettable presenence and sharp tongue it was for her
brilliance. Kris is distant from her parents, and these days
spends most of her time cooped up in her lab in studies (with her
newest minder lab assistant [thankyou verymuch] Vrishka for
company; an absolutley fascinating half-orc woman with an
endless stream of stories about growing up racially mixed in the
Plaguelands and a figure nothing short of the valkyrie ideal!),
but she loves her siblings dearly, and is deeply troubled by the
brewing conflict between her eldest sibling the bookish and
quiet Remus and her idealistic younger sibling Draki. She
knows of the conflict, but while shes more than familiar with
(and right tired of too, thank you notsovery much) University
politics, her education in political realities closer to home is . . .
lacking. Most of her worry is about the tension between her
loved ones and the disruption of familial relationships. As the
oldest daughter of the Brontesions yet to be married (and then
move off to live with the new husband and leave home and her
adorable little siblings behind no thankyou verymuch besides,
she prefers the fairer sex) she considers it her duty to keep an
eye out for and on her adorable little siblings (theyre all
younger than her for not being smart enough to get out of
politics in her opinion and no. Academia does not count as
politics thankyou verymuch, shes in it for the science magic and
the posturing professors and grad students are an unfortunate
tax one must pay for such a life). Sadly, shes probably in over
her head this time (though an excellent head it may be) because
the future of the family is on the line and this is not something
Remus or Draki will back down from easily. On the other hand
her commitment to her siblings and her family may be the best
chance for peaceful discussion at this point. . . now if only
someone could get her out of her damn tower and away from her
magic studies more often (yknow, without having to use Vrishka
as bait).
2. (Actively Hostile) NameJohann Aurumschlag age 25, Wanted:
Alive, 10 gold reward for information leading to an arrest, 500
gold for his capture. A disgraced noble, and excommunicated
member of the Church, Johann was another priest-in-training,
though one much further along in his education when Draki first
began being brought to the church for regular lessons with the
priests and the two saw each other often though mostly due to
coincidence. Draki took the opportunity presented to watch
Johann from a distance for two very important but simple
Johann is still with the Cult of Tiamat these days, and whatever
legal action has been taken still goes by his family name, which
translates as the light of dawn strikes. . . he thinks of it more as
a title now. His focus however remains revenge. Revenge on
Remus for his defeat and capture, revenge on Kris for causing
the falling out, and revenge on Draki for escaping. Draki and Kris
were his, and they belong to Johann. Tiamat preaches on what
one must due with an unruly hoard.
Step 6: Describe one or two mannerisms/quirks that your character
has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some
context and flavor. Some examples to get your juices flowing are
below. Feel free to expand upon your quirks, perhaps even an
explanation as to why they have that quirk.
a. painfully straightforward
b. occasionally oblivious
c. always well meaning
d. has little sense of personal space amongst his treasures friends (with
exceptions for those whove made it clear that bothers them treating ones
treasures correctly is part of maintaining a hoard)
e. loves to swim
f. sees everything in black and white reflexively and automatically
