During this NFDN course we have been provided many scenarios

where we must form a nursing diagnosis. For example we were
provided a scenario where the diabetic patient fell in her room. I
realized that this could have been related to her diabetes and she
possibly had a hypoglycemic episode.

I have learned how to make a competent and accurate nursing

diagnosis using critical thinking and it relates to the B-2-3 competency
because I am able to show that I can think critically and make a nursing
diagnosis. This is important because by using critical thinking I will be
able to help prevent certain scenarios that could be detrimental to my
patients health or provide care for things that have already happened.

I feel that my competency in this category is between fair to good. I

understand what critical thinking is and how to apply it to a nursing
diagnosis. I feel that with more practice and experience I will be able
to recognize more and apply that knowledge to a nursing diagnosis. I
also tend to focus on the thing that is the most evident rather than
looking at the whole picture therefore missing evidence of maybe other
nursing diagnosis that could be made.

I need to become more observant and look at everything rather than

what is most evident. While knowing how to make a nursing diagnosis
on the signs and symptoms that are most blatant, I need to apply critical
thinking to the signs and symptoms that could also point to another
nursing diagnosis that could be just as important. This is very

important for me to do so I do not miss anything that could lead to a

potential decrease in my patients health and wellness.
