needed to be together and not go far off . Pablo Neruda is in the position to
where he is writing the love poem about the one he loves and how important she
is to his life.
Don't go far off, not even for a day, because Because - I don't know how to say it: a day is long
And I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
When the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep
In this poem, a poet loves someone a lot. The poet said to his beloved one, not to
ever go far from his life although it is just a day. Even a day for the poet, without
her it is very long time. Because the day you will go, that day will be so long for
him. The waiting time passes so long. It is very difficult for him till he does not
know how the way to say his pain when it happens and he waits. It is like the day
never ends and that waiting will start paining his heart. When he waits for his
love, it seems like waiting a train in the night and the station is empty. There is no
train came and stop in the station, it is so long. It is the metaphor to say how big
loneliness attacks him for the time without her. There is a big dependence that
very strong between the poet and his love. In here is described as a lonely
situation pressing when he is far separated with his love although it is just a
second time. The poet says that he needs his love to survive his life.
Don't leave me, even for an hour, because
then the little drops of anguish will all run together
the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart
In the second stanza, the poet still presses the words that he asks his love not to
leave him although just a moment. Because when the time his love leaves him, it
will make all of a big deep loneliness will attack him. And it is a huge pain for
him even the little drops of water will be painful for him. That event will make
him weep long and the passing of every tear from his eyes will just remember her
and just want her to come back immediately. The eyes will miss her and search for
her only, every time. And slowly, this searching will kill him. He said that his
condition will be like the smoke will drift into his home and he will face the
problem to breath and lost the heath.

Imaginary
Imaginary is used throughout this poem in a rich way that allows the reader to
visualize what is happening through the descriptive language that Pablo uses. One
example of imagery in this poem is:
A day is long
And I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
When the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.
This imagery describes to be viewed as visual about the condition of his pain. The
reader can imagine an empty train station, usually dark and maybe a little quiet
and standing alone while expecting a train parks and someone will turn down. The
speaker may have decided to use an empty train station as an example of waiting
how hard it is to be waiting.
Simile
A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison, showing similarities between two
different things. Unlike a metaphor, a simile draws resemblance with the help of the
words like or as. Therefore, it is a direct comparison. The speaker also uses the
word as in this poem. Which is a comparing word, in this sentence: And I will
be waiting for you, as in an empty station. An empty train station is boring, and
lonely just like the speaker's heart when his / her beloved one is go away.
Personification
Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing, an idea or an animal is
given human attributes. The non-human objects are portrayed in such a way that
we feel they have the ability to act like human beings. An example of
personification in the poem is:
The smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
Into me choking my lost heart.
The speaker used the word The smoke that roams looking for a home, roams is
common used for human. The smoke cant roams literally. It take human attributes
to describe hidden meaning looks like. It is impossible the smoke roams that
means full the home. Then the speaker goes on about how it will choke his heart,
which is implying that the sadness will then suffocate his heart hard enough which
will leave the speaker heart broken.
Metaphor
Comparisons between two seemingly dissimilar things. An example of a metaphor
that is cited in the poem is:
"Don't leave me, even for an hour, because
Then the little drops of anguish will all run together."
The speaker is comparing drops, supposedly rain drops, and anguish together.
When little rain drops come together it forms a puddle. The message the speaker
is trying to get across is if his loved one leave for even just an hour then the little
drops of emotional pain will all gather up and soon become a big puddle of pain.
Tone
The mood creates in the reader. The tone of Dont Go Far Off is fearful and weak.
The speaker is afraid that his loved one will walk of his life and when she leave
itll damage the speaker, not physically but emotionally. In the poem you can feel
that the speaker is feeling weak, they are basically pouring out their heart by
asking his loved one not to leave for even just a little bit.
Repetition: Anaphora: Pablo uses anaphora, a figure of speech in which a word
or phrase is repeated at the beginning of a clause or another group of words.
Anaphora commonly emphasis and balance. Here are boldfaced examples from
Dont go far off.
1 Don't go far off, not even for a day, because
2 Because I don't know how to say it: a day is long
5 Don't leave me, even for an hour, because
11Don't leave me for a second, my dearest
12Because in that moment you'll have gone so far
14Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?
In the poem the speaker seems to use the word "don't, because, leave" repetitively,
Alliteration (Initial sounds of a word, beginning either with a consonant or a
vowel, are repeated in close succession): Alliteration in Dont go far off poem
show in some sentence, those are:
4 When the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep
13I'll wander mazily over all the earth, asking
t is same sound in the words The Trains and o, a are same sound also
although different letter in the words Over All
Diction
As style of speaking or writing determined by the choice of words by a speaker or
a writer. Pablo in his Dont go far off uses formal diction to achieve a certain
effect and using many connotations to say the hidden meaning and to imaginary
the happen in his life. To make reader can imagine the condition of poem, how
pain the event of the poem.
Meter (the rhythm established by a poem, and it is usually dependent not only on
the number of syllables in a line but also on the way those syllables are accented):
The meter of this poem is considering who read. This poem is using unregularly
meter, and sure emphasis in anaphora words.
Symbolize
Associate two things, but their meaning is both literal and figurative. In each
paragraph the speaker changes the time, they go from a day, to an hour, to a blink.
That can symbolize a fear because it shows that the speaker is afraid that the
longer their loved ones is away, then the longer they have time to think about
leaving. If they are with the speaker at all times then it won't be that easy to leave.
Theme
The theme of Dont Go Far Off is I do love you, dont go away. Telling before
you walk away, before you leave your loved one, making sure you all are both on
the same page because you could mean the world to someone and you would
never know. Every things you do can affect someone in ways you may not
understand. Another theme from this poem is don't fall for someone so deeply that
if they happen to leave you, then your life is over. It's okay to love, but is it okay
to love so much that it can possibly hurt you emotionally and physically to the
point where you're left dying alone?
